🌱 Tuesdays with Teena in Ag…Part 2 🌱
Calling on the Capitol

While many of us were participating locally in the Placer County Ag Tour, Placer County Farm Bureau President Jocelyn Maddux attended California Farm Bureau’s Calling on the Capitol alongside Farm Bureau members Shannon Spears and Elisa Noble.

Throughout the day, they met with legislative offices and staff to discuss issues directly impacting California agriculture, including agricultural labor, pesticide regulation, wildlife management, wine labeling legislation, and emerging agricultural technology.

Most importantly, they were able to share how proposed legislation affects our members on the ground here in Placer County, from the realities facing family farms and ranches to the challenges of labor costs, regulation, production pressures, and maintaining the long-term viability of local agriculture in California.

Their meetings included discussions with the offices of Senator Megan Dahle, Assemblymember Anamarie Avila Farías, Assemblymember Corey Jackson, and Assemblymember Matt Haney, helping ensure that the voices of Placer County agriculture were represented in important policy conversations taking place at the State Capitol.

Shannon Spears also serves as chair of our scholarship committee, helping encourage and support the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Whether advocacy happens in Sacramento, at a local farmers market, on a family farm, or through educational tours here at home, every effort matters.

Thank you to everyone who continues advocating for agriculture and rural communities throughout California. 🌾

Tuesdays with Teena in Ag, Part 1 🌱
2026 Placer County Ag Tour

On Tuesday, the Placer County Resource Conservation District hosted the 2026 Placer County Ag Tour, bringing together agricultural leaders, community members, growers, and advocates to highlight the importance of local agriculture and the many ways products move from farms to consumers here in Placer County.

This year’s Ag Tour theme focused on the connection between production, marketing, and direct sales, showcasing the work and innovation behind many of our local small farms and agricultural businesses.

I was fortunate to attend alongside longtime farmers, ranchers, and Placer County Farm Bureau board member Wayne Vineyard and his equally agriculture-involved wife, Barbara Vineyard, whose deep roots and continued involvement in our agricultural community are such an asset to Placer County.

The tour included stops at the Fountains at Roseville Farmers Market, which continues to provide a year-round opportunity for residents to connect directly with local farmers, bakers, ranchers, and producers from throughout the region.

Participants also visited The Natural Trading Company in Newcastle, a long-standing diversified farm operation known for specialty crops, wheatgrass, microgreens, and direct-to-consumer agricultural production.

Another stop included Saeng’s Strawberries in Granite Bay, where attendees learned more about the family’s decades-long farming operation and the dedication required to sustain a successful local farm business in California.

These tours are such an important reminder that agriculture advocacy happens in many different ways, from education and conservation efforts to relationship-building and helping consumers better understand the people behind their food.

Agriculture is not just an industry in Placer County. It is heritage, stewardship, food security, small business, open space, and community.

Thank you to the Placer County Resource Conservation District, the growers and hosts who opened their operations, and everyone who continues working to preserve and strengthen agriculture in Placer County for future generations. 🌻
