Here are five things I look for when reviewing a return from an investment and tax planning lens:

• Where your investments are held and whether they're costing you more in taxes than they need to

• Whether income inside a trust is being taxed at rates higher than you'd expect

• How your charitable giving is structured and whether you're getting the full tax benefit

• Whether your estimated payments are too high or too low

• Whether your retirement income is making your Social Security taxable

When tax planning and investment management aren't happening under the same roof, opportunities can get missed.

So before you file your return away, consider getting a review. It could save you more than you'd expect.

Stu Steinberg, CFP®, CPA, MBA has always been drawn to numbers and strategy, long before his 30-year career in wealth and tax planning. As a kid, he was the one keeping score during neighborhood hockey and football games and mapping out strategy to win. That early instinct evolved into advising clients on generational financial planning, investment strategies, and philanthropic giving.

Clients value the way he models decisions with foresight and brings clarity to complex choices with a balanced approach that helps families prepare for life’s transitions rather than react to them.
