In 1966 in the back of Clark’s Grocery Store my dads dream was born. Dad (Butters, Lou, Lewis, Lewis Allen) was a store owner in a little town called Rocky Fork or Hickman. During an insurance audit of the store, dad’s future was changed. The gentleman checking all of the numbers, auditing the operation of the store asked dad to consider another occupation, opening an insurance agency and Lewis A. Clark Insurance was a dream for this young storekeeper.
Dad ran the agency from the store while continuing to pump gas, bag groceries, and interact with the people who shopped at the little grocery store.
Eventually dad moved the business to town. (Newark) Dad started on Mt. Vernon Rd, moved to downtown and then we ended up @ 1474 N. 21st street, where we have served clients for the last 18 years.
Many, many years ago I Purchased the agency. There was no fanfare, no big celebration, no name change. I had been a part of the agency since 1977, starting as a receptionist, learning my skill sets from the best.
We finished up client appreciation yesterday. We had a chance to love on and celebrate with so many people.
