Distracted driving is any activity that diverts your attention from the road, including talking or texting on your phone, eating & drinking, talking to people in your vehicle and adjusting your entertainment or navigation system.
Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.

You cannot drive safely unless driving has your full attention. Any activity you engage in while driving is a potential distraction and increases your risk of crashing.

A home maintenance checklist will help you
stay on top of tasks like replacing air filters,
testing smoke & carbon monoxide detectors
and checking the water heater for leaks.
Also, you will want to make sure your air
conditioning system is working properly and
clean the dryer vent to reduce fire hazards.
By taking care of these maintenance tasks, you
will keep your family safe and save money on
repairs.
Air Filters: Many types of heating and air
conditioning systems contain filters to remove
dirt and dust from the air. Check the instruction
manual or search online by model number to
confirm how often you should change the
filters.
Safety and Security: If you have a home security system, regularly check the alarms and circuit
breakers to ensure they are in working order. Inspect the sensors one by one. The batteries in your
smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should also be checked twice a year to ensure they are working.
Detectors should be replaced every 10 years.
Roof, Gutters and Downspouts: A qualified roofer should inspect your roof every three years. Skylights
should also be checked so leaks don’t develop from cracks around the seals, caulking and flashings.
Make sure that gutters and downspouts do not get clogged with leaves or other debris.
Windows and Doors: Inspect exterior windows and doors yearly to see if the caulking around them has
split and cracked. If so, replace the caulk and clean any mildew.
Siding: The exterior of your house is built to withstand exposure to the elements, but a periodic cleaning
will improve the appearance and, in many cases, prolong the life of siding.
Garage: The moving parts of garage doors should be oiled every three months.

US auto safety regulators are investigating whether earlier recalls of more than a million Ram pickups did enough to address a flaw that could lead to trucks rolling away unexpectedly.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received 20 reports indicating previous recall fixes failed to address the problem, including six incidents that injured seven people and 12 involving a crash or fire, according to an agency notice. The defect at issue could allow the vehicles’ transmission to be shifted out of park without having a foot on the brake pedal or a key in the ignition.

Ride-Sharing, Ride-Hailing and Taxis
Confirm your ride by checking the license plate.
Before getting into a ride-hailing vehicle, make
sure the car and license plate match what you
booked through the app. Many of these cars
can look alike.
You should also look at the driver and ask
them their name, to confirm it matches the name and photo in the app.
Find a safe spot to be picked up.
Pickup locations for ride-hailing services aren’t usually centralized. You should pick a location
where you can wait inside until the driver arrives. If that’s not possible, choose an area to wait
that’s away from the road, well lit, and where your driver can safely stop. Request that your driver
drop you off in a safe spot, too.
Don’t step into the road to flag down a ride. Go to a taxi stand, call for a cab or request someone
call a ride for you. It’s never a good idea to accept a ride from a stranger who may stop after
seeing you looking for a ride.
Wear a seat belt.
Even if it’s a quick ride and you’re in the back seat, you should always buckle up, and make

Self-driving vehicle companies from Tesla Inc. to General Motors Co.’s Cruise are racing to start making money with their technology, outrunning efforts by regulators and Congress to write rules of the road for robot-driven vehicles. Proposed legislation to create a national framework of rules to govern autonomous vehicles remains stalled in Congress, despite the industry’s lobbying. That has left autonomous vehicle companies free to deploy robotaxis or self-driving trucks in some states, such as Arizona and Texas, but not in others.

A 2012 law had directed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an agency of the Department of Transportation, to implement safety rules requiring car manufacturers to install a warning to drivers if an unbuckled passenger is sitting in a rear seat. The agency had three years to act.
The rear seat belt reminder requirement is now scheduled to start moving through the cumbersome regulatory process in January, but a final rule could be years away. The agency in the past has repeatedly blown past deadlines, including those promised in federal court.
