Sally here (again)! 👋 I'm not a big social media person, but I felt so strongly about the latest Acquired Podcast episode on Vanguard that I had to share it. (Yes, *that* Vanguard.)

So much of it resonated with me because Vanguard, like First Federal, is a mutual — we're owned by our customers, not shareholders. Ben and David do a great job digging into what that really means.

I don't think we talk about this enough, but our mutual structure is brilliant. It lets us plan for the long-term instead of chasing quarterly earnings, and it keeps us focused on you — our customers, our neighbors, our local nonprofits, our community, and our employees.

If I could thank my great grandfather, Everett D. Reese (our founder!), for one thing, it would be setting us up as a mutual. What a gift he gave us and Licking County. 🧡

The future of banking is bright, and we got to meet some of them this week!

First Federal is proud to be part of the OBL Summer Banking Institute, a one-week immersive bootcamp that pairs college student interns with banks across Ohio. Before their internships begin, students dive deep into banking skills, leadership, and what it really means to serve a community.

Our President & CEO Sally Heckman had the chance to spend time with this year’s interns, sharing her passion for banking and the kind of leadership that makes a difference. It was an inspiring reminder of why we do what we do.

Mike brings over 30 years of public accounting experience and serves as Firm Manager at Wilson, Shannon, & Snow CPAs & Advisors, where his work spans financial statement audits, small business taxation, and consulting. A proud Ohio State alum and longtime Licking County community member, Mike also serves as Treasurer of Licking County Community Health and volunteers with the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra.
