One of the unique aspects of the Compassion Course is the opportunity to learn from guest trainers around the world — each bringing their own experience, culture, and way of living compassion into daily life.

Through live conferences and deep-dive sessions, these trainers help participants explore how Nonviolent Communication can support healing, relationships, parenting, leadership, education, community building, and social change.

Together, they help create a truly global learning community grounded in practice, connection, and shared humanity.

Registration is now open. Course begins June 24.

In this clip, Thom Bond talks about self-empathy as a way of making compassion “portable.” A practice we can return to anytime we feel stuck, reactive, or disconnected.

Self-empathy is at the heart of this work. It’s the practice of turning inward with honesty and compassion — welcoming our judgments, feeling our feelings fully, and connecting with the needs underneath them. And often, when something feels impossible or “undoable,” what we may need most is simply… more empathy.

Over time, this practice becomes an inner source of support — helping us respond to life not from pressure or “shoulds,” but from deeper understanding, clarity, and choice.

In The Compassion Course, we move beyond simply recognizing needs — we practice applying that awareness in real life, again and again, until new ways of thinking and relating begin to feel more natural.

Like learning a musical instrument or a sport, compassionate living grows through repetition, intention, and practice.

Registration is now open. The new course begins June 24.

It’s natural to feel connection with the people we already love.
The real shift begins somewhere else.

With the people we resist. The ones we disagree with. The ones whose words or actions are hardest to receive.

Even a small moment of genuine connection there can begin a real transformation—
in the relationship and in the world around us.

This is the work we practice inside The Compassion Course.

We all have different worldviews—shaped by our beliefs, perspectives, and life experiences.

But underneath all of that, something very profound connects us:
we all share the same universal human feelings and needs.

This is what Thom Bond calls the “magic in our sameness.”

When we learn to meet each other at that level, it opens the door to a very real sense of connection—even in moments of tension or difference.

So often, we go into fixing right away —offering advice, solutions, or trying to make things better for someone.

But in many moments, what people really need is something else.

In the Compassion Course, we explore presence over fixing — the practice of being fully with someone, listening for what they might be feeling and needing, without rushing to solve anything.

Being heard and understood can be deeply healing. It creates connection and opens the door for more honest, meaningful dialogue—and from there, more sustainable solutions oftentimes emerge.

If this resonates, save it as a reminder or share it with someone who might need this today.

Understanding empathy isn’t usually the challenge — living it regularly is.

That’s where empathy buddies come in.

Two people agree to show up consistently and take turns giving and receiving empathy — not as a one-time exercise, but as an ongoing practice.

The purpose is simple: to make empathy part of everyday life.
And over time, something happens.

There’s a kind of magic to this exchange.

Being truly heard and understood feels like real healing — like medicine for an aching heart.

In the midst of stressful lives, our hearts need a regular dose of empathy to heal, soften, and keep opening.

This is one of the ways the practice becomes sustainable — something we can actually live, not just understand.

Most of us were never shown
what to do with our judgments.

So we either believe them
or try to push them away.

In The Compassion Course,
we practice something else:

Understanding what’s underneath—
and translating judgments into feelings and needs.

A different way of thinking.
A different way of relating.
