AI is now part of the SEC exam conversation.

For investment advisers, the issue is simple: can the firm explain how AI is being used, who oversees it, and whether external claims match actual practice?

That means looking at:

· Marketing language
· Compliance policies
· Vendor oversight
· Recordkeeping
· Cyber controls

This is the practical issue behind “AI washing.” It means overstating or being unclear about how AI is actually used.
