I stopped seeing alcohol as a reward.
I started seeing it as an eraser.
An eraser of awareness.
An eraser of judgment.
An eraser of presence.
An eraser of nights you can’t get back and moments you didn’t fully live.
Once you recognize alcohol for what it actually does — not what it promises — it changes the conversation completely.
At some point, you have to stop negotiating with something that keeps erasing pieces of your life.
You don’t need more willpower.
You need clarity.
That’s what finally did it for me.
