NYU Federal Credit Union

NYU Federal Credit Union New York University Credit Union (NYU FCU) New York University Credit Union (NYU FCU) was established in 1982 to serve the New York University community.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, retiree and their family members are all eligible to join. All that’s required to establish membership is $50 in a Share Savings account. We currently have more than 9000 members and more than $68 million in assets. NYU FCU is governed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of current and former NYU employees. We are located at 726 Broadway, Suite 110, New Yo

rk, NY 10003. All interest that NYU FCU accrues as a financial institution is passed on to our members in the form of better rates on loans, and lower or no fees for financial services. As a member of the credit union, you are encouraged to attend the annual meeting. At this meeting you may vote to elect a volunteer board of directors, who oversee the credit union's operations. Each member receives one vote regardless of their account balance as long as the minimum balance ($50) is maintained in the primary savings account. Because its members own NYU FCU collectively, we realize that people are our most valuable asset, and quality service is our most important goal

In 1908, a group of mill workers in Manchester, New Hampshire, wanted something pretty simple: a safe place to save their money and access affordable loans.

At the time, commercial banks weren't always accessible to working-class families, so the community decided to create its own solution. With guidance from Canadian credit union pioneer Alphonse Desjardins, local residents pooled their savings in the home of volunteer Joseph Boivin, creating St. Mary’s Cooperative Credit Association, the first credit union in the United States.

The principle was simple: people helping people build greater financial security. 🤝

More than a century later, technology has changed, but that principle hasn't.

At NYU FCU, being a credit union means:

💰 Your money works for members. As a member-owned cooperative, we put earnings back into the credit union through competitive rates and fewer fees.

🏦 Your deposits support your community. The money you save helps fund loans and other financial services for fellow members.

👥 We're here for members, not outside investors. We don't have corporate stockholders demanding returns. Our purpose is to serve the people who belong to the credit union.

Banking doesn't have to feel distant or impersonal. It can be built around the people it serves.

That's the credit union difference.
