Over 30 years ago, Captain John Drennan, FDNY Ladder 5, lost his life in the Watts Street fire. Before his years with the department, he was my dad’s high school football coach — a man who left an immeasurable mark on his players and the kind of men they’d grow to be.

He pushed them hard, taught them discipline and teamwork, and inspired many to join the FDNY and dedicate their lives to service. His influence went far beyond the field.

Now, after three decades of persistence, fundraising, and hope, the new fieldhouse at Tottenville High School will finally bear his name. My dad has been part of the effort since the very beginning, helping lead the charge to make this happen.

I couldn’t be prouder of him — and I can’t think of a better reflection of Captain Drennan’s legacy than the determination, loyalty, and love for others that drove my father to see this through.

Seeing this come to life after so many years is a reminder that true influence never fades — it echoes through the people you’ve led and the lives you’ve touched.

After years of waiting, the Huguenot school will celebrate the start of construction for the facility named after local hero.

At yesterday's press conference, Jerome Powell gave us the best indicator so far that interest rate cuts are coming as soon as September. This means that the interest rates on high yield savings accounts would be coming down as well (the rates on your HYSA are not guaranteed & change as interest rates change).

So it may be time to consider moving funds in HYSA into CDs - this will help lock in higher interest rates for longer. Here are current CD rates available at Oppenheimer. If this something you are interested in, reach out to me & we can set up a time to chat more about it.

Kicking off Women's History Month with a ...I love this article from January 1986 that shows the effort & grind that Cindy put into building her practice....

"Newman went to work for Shearson a month after graduation from Cedar Crest College, then became registered to sell stocks and bonds while working with a discount brokerage firm which, she says, refused to hire her as a stockbroker because she was a woman."

"Newman, who worked in New York City until last April when her pregnancy made commuting difficult - her daughter is 3 months old - frequently is up at 6:30 and working until 9 at night, going into Manhattan to meet with clients."

The boundaries she pushed and the ceilings she broke has helped pave the way for the next generation of women advisors. While balancing our practice and a new baby is a challenge, it's exceptionally better that it was in 1986 because of women like my mom.
