Adventures in Finance with BULL & BEAR Adventures in Finance with Bull & Bear is a children's book series about personal finance topics.

Roy and Susan Kim combined their right and left brains to bring readers educational and entertaining stories about two city kids learning the highs and lows of personal finance. Roy and Susan have witnessed the devastating effects that poor financial decisions can have on families, and they strongly believe that teaching personal finance at a young age will help children become financially secure

and stable as adults. Roy grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and studied Finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park. Roy works with wealth management firms of all sizes that help people around the globe meet their financial goals. Susan is the founder and CEO of Eleven Digital Group, a sales and marketing consulting firm in New York City. Susan brought life to this book series and was instrumental in creating the animated Bull and Bear characters, all story boards, editing and managing sales and marketing for the series.

Question 1) Share with the community, did you ever take a personal finance class of any kind between grades K-12?

Question 2) We would also be curious to know in what state you did or didn’t take a class on personal finance.

Our answer 3) No classes during K-12 years for either of us. Susan went to school in Virginia and Roy went to school in Maryland.

Some great practical tips on how to talk numeracy in everyday life including some regarding money shared by our this evening:

• Bake a tasty treat with your child. Change the quantity of the servings and calculate the new measurements of ingredients.

• Go shopping. Have your child calculate discounts and markdowns for various items.

• Plan a family dinner at home. Your child can help to determine the quantity of food needed and then coordinate the budget and shopping list with all necessary ingredients.

• Go to an arcade. Count your money in advance and plan how you will spend it.

• Enjoy dinner at a restaurant. Have your child calculate the tip and final bill amount.

• Have your child calculate the square footage of a bedroom. Using this information, devise a plan to rearrange the furniture.

• Go for a walk. Ask your child to calculate the total distance you covered. (1 block = 1/20 of a mile)

• Calculate the price of a taxi ride from point A to point B. Take into consideration different surcharges throughout the day.
