Life Settlement Industry Terminology Primer

Here's a brief primer on some common terms used in the market:

Broker - represents the policy owner, owes fiduciary duty to the owner

Provider - company legally able to purchase a life insurance policy from the policy owner

Fund - Often the ultimate owner of a life policy that has been sold. Funds work with providers and the providers represent them in the market.

Life Settlement - transaction involving the sale of a life insurance policy to a third party

Viatical Settlement - same as a life settlement except the the person who's life is insured suffers from a terminal illness

LE - life expectancy report
