Stat of the week: Apple (AAPL) unveiled its new generation iPhone this week. The new models, iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will be available on October 23. Notable new features include the integration of 5G technology, a faster chip and improvements to the camera's night mode, according to the manufacturer.
While the price of the iPhone 11 was one of the highest in the world in the UK and Russia, the price of the 12 model turned out lower - at least in comparison. Continental Europeans - for example in Germany and France - are paying more of a premium this time around. [Source: Statista]

Netflix Inc. (NFLX) is abandoning free trials in the U.S., opting to pursue other tactics for finding new customers in an increasingly saturated market.
After pulling the free-trial option from its website, the company said it was “looking at different marketing promotions in the United States to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience.”
Walt Disney Co. (DIS) took a similar step in June when it stopped offering one-week free trials for its Disney+ streaming service in the U.S.

Spotify Technology (SPOT), Match Group (MTCH) and “Fortnite” creator Epic Games have joined a nonprofit group that plans to advocate for legal and regulatory action to challenge Apple’s (AAPL) App Store practices.
Apple charges a commission for apps that use its in-app payment system and sets out extensive rules that apps must comply with to appear in its App Store. The nonprofit Coalition for App Fairness said it plans to advocate legal changes that would force Apple to change.

Nike Inc. (NKE) stock surged nearly 10% in Wednesday trading after it became one of the few companies to offer guidance, forecasting full fiscal year revenue that will be up in the high single digits to low double digits.
Nike reported fiscal first-quarter profit and revenue that blew past analyst expectations for a "ho-hum" quarter.

Tesla (TSLA) is planning its battery day for Sept. 22, and analysts and investors are looking forward to hearing what new developments the company has on it. The event has been the source of much speculation as to what delights will be on offer from Elon Musk. Wall Street seems to expect nothing less than the unveiling of technological advances that would cement Tesla’s position as the leading electric vehicle-battery maker, showing strides toward lower prices and higher volumes of the costly and fundamental EV vehicle component.

Declines in shares of technology companies pushed the S&P 500 to a third comsecutive week of declines.
Facebook and Amazon have each dropped more than 5% this week. Alphabet, Netflix, Apple and Microsoft are also down sharply over that time period. For the month, all six stocks are down at least 10%.
Apple, specifically, has plunged 17.2% in September.

Stat of the week: TikTok stayed in front of Instagram and Facebook in terms of app downloads on Android and Apple devices. It will be interesting to see the download numbers in the following months, considering TikTok just secured a deal with Oracle for its U.S. services. Source: Statista

Apple Inc (AAPL) on Tuesday introduced a new Apple Watch Series 6 that monitors blood oxygen for $399 and a lower-cost Apple Watch SE for $279, kicking off a product lineup for a holiday shopping season that will be unlike any other due to COVID-19.

Apple also announced Apple One, bundling services such as television, music, and games. Apple One will cost $15 per month for an individual plan or $20 per month for a family plan.
Apple also introduced a service called Apple Fitness+ powered by its watches that will deliver virtual workouts for $10 per month or $80 per year and be available before the end of the year. (Source: Reuters)

Sony is holding a special PlayStation 5 event next week. The company will broadcast a 40-minute “digital showcase” on Wednesday, September 16th that will include updates from first-party Sony game studios and third-party partners.

It looks increasingly likely that Sony will release the price of the PS5 on Wednesday, especially given that Microsoft is opening up Xbox preorders on September 22nd. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console is priced at $499, but Sony has two prices to provide for both its disc-less digital edition PS5 and the regular PS5.
