Gardening is a great way to make your surroundings beautiful and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while burning a few calories in the process. Active gardening and yard work can burn anywhere from 200 to 400 calories per hour. Bending to pull weeds and plant flowers is similar to doing squats. Raking and bagging leaves mimics some upper body exercises. Try to keep your abs in, shoulders down, and lower back supported while getting your gardening exercise. Don't forget to apply sunscreen!
