Cyber security issues can devastate real estate businesses, especially when it comes to commercial real estate owners and operators.
As cyber security and real estate specialists, we've seen commercial real estate owners get severely impacted by cyber scurity issues--getting hacked, ransomware attacks, the list goes on...
Today, we're discussing effective email and password hygeine. Safely using email seems like an obvious way to protect against cyber attacks. However, email is the gateway hackers and cyber criminals often use to get access to data.
Therefore, we recommend never clicking on unkown links or attachments as these could be malicious or contain viruses. We also recommend using encrypted email or a secure document transfering platform for sharing sensitive files. This will help protect your most important data, preventing it from falling into the wrong hands. We also recommend saving important messages in a separate location, like on a hard drive or in the cloud, and periodically purging your inbox (e.g, one a quarter) to limit the amount of sensitive information in your inbox, mitigating your risk should your inbox get hacked. Lastly, we recommend using complex passwords and updating them frequently, making it more challenging for hackers to gain access.
