Approximately 1.3 billion tonnes of food produced for human consumption is wasted each year globally, while more than 820 million people are still left hungry every day. Most of the food thrown away is perfectly nutritious and safe to consume. Worst yet, food that ends up in landfills produces many greenhouse gases and is one of the leading causes of freshwater pollution. Best friends and , Chris Wilson and Jamie Crummie, decided to battle this food waste dilemma through their app, Too Good to Go. This app connects hungry people with local restaurants, bakeries, and supermarkets that are selling leftover food at major discount prices.
In the end, the extra food never reaches our landfills, and they also reach the people who need it most.
