Meet Ireland!! 🐶

“A note from the foster: Forever family pick me, please! My name is Ireland and I have been learning all about family life since I arrived to rescue from the Out of the Cold Rescue effort. At first, I was a bundle of nerves that came out in a burst of crazy energy, but thank goodness my foster mom was patient and understood I just needed some time. You see, I’ve never really had a home until Coco’s Heart saved me, and I didn’t quite understand what it was like to live in a house with people. But that’s all behind me now, and I am pretty much the perfect dog....a bit of a couch potato, but hey, a girl needs to put her paws up and relax sometimes.

I am fully potty trained and have never had an accident in the house. I play very gently with new dogs that come to my home. I do benefit from slow introductions, but once I learn that the other dogs are friendly, I’m a gentle teddy bear. When strangers come to my house, I bark to warn everybody, but I make friends pretty much immediately after I introduce myself. I eat my kibble in my crate and have shown absolutely no resource guarding (even when a certain greedy little dog gets away from foster mom and finds herself in my dish.) Mom says I’m so patient and gentle.

I’m still working on my manners on a leash. My foster mom uses a slip lead and I’ve learned a lot (and so has she). I’m doing pretty good, but still need some reminders that I’m not supposed to pull. I also tend to get a bit excited and jump, mom uses the word “down” and turns her back on me. Usually I calm down and sit still to wait for pets when this happens. I am friendly and patient with kids and adults. The only concern mom has with me around little kids is if I jump and knock them over. She knows I would never hurt anyone on purpose.” 🐾

Meet Mayzee! Mayzee is a very special girl with quite the story.

“Mayzee is a 2-year-old female heeler mix who arrived to rescue back in December. She was extremely pregnant and actually started giving birth on transport! Those first couple of days after her puppies were born, things were rocky. Mayzee was extremely uncomfortable with touch/handling to begin with, but also developed some maternal aggression once the puppies were in the picture. On top of that, she needed emergency surgery for a suspected retained placenta after birth. She hadn’t had a chance to settle into her foster home and develop a trusting relationship with her foster and no one could blame her for being stressed. It has taken several months of consistency with working on a leash going over her head, walking on the leash, and just generally winning her heart with salami (her absolute favorite food) though it’s all still a work in progress, Mayzee has made great strides
Here is the thing that might be tough for some folks about Mayzee: she does not enjoy being pet. She shows us in her own way that she enjoys our company though! She will happily give a little kiss when putting on her leash to get out of her crate, or lay next to her people in the living room chewing on a bone. But she does not seek out physical touch or affection. We feel it’s very important to respect her space and not force that upon her, since she is happy and thriving without it.

Mayzee is looking for a home that is ready and willing to work with her in the way that she needs, that understands that she will need extra time, space and patience (and lots of salami treats) when acclimating to a new home and is okay that she is not going to be the type of dog that will want to be smothered in pets and affection. An ideal home would not have a lot of foot traffic with visitors as new people can make her feel uncomfortable and nervous. Mayzee would love to have another playful dog in the house to play with and learn from too!” - A Note From The Foster 🐾
