Great connections, meaningful conversations and a room full of entrepreneurial energy! 💚🤝

FLYTE’s 2026 Fall Mixer brought together Entrepreneur Empowerment Program members and mentees, staff, community partners and volunteers to connect, grow their networks and build relationships that extend beyond the program.

A huge thank-you to Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Co. for generously hosting us and providing refreshments to help make this gathering possible!

Big dreams deserve grand openings.

Since 2017, Flyte alumni April Okpo, along with her husband, Ogban, has been building a loyal New Orleans following through the Tanjariné food truck — one bold, plant-based meal at a time.

At the center of the story is the Mandela Burger: Tanjariné’s signature Nigerian-inspired vegan burger and a familiar favorite at festivals, pop-ups and stops across the city. Tanjariné’s vibrant, plant-based food has also earned national recognition from USA TODAY’s 10Best.

Through years of food-truck service, festivals and pop-ups, April continued growing that following while working toward a permanent home for Tanjariné.

Now, that vision has a home.

April is preparing to open Café Tanjariné, the business’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant — a permanent place for the Nigerian-inspired flavors and plant-based comfort food New Orleanians have come to know and love.

Access to financing is one of the greatest barriers small-business owners face, and Flyte is honored to work alongside April to secure the funding needed to take this major next step.

Every business begins with a dream. This room was full of them.

Last month, we welcomed the 2026 Flyte Entrepreneur Empowerment cohort with an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration. From first introductions to future collaborations, Black women entrepreneurs from across New Orleans gathered to share their stories and invest in what’s next.

Over the coming year, these founders will strengthen their businesses, build financial confidence, and grow alongside a community that’s cheering them on every step of the way.

Welcome to the Flyte family! We’re so glad you’re here.

A special thank you to The Kresge Foundation for making the evening possible.

Behind every thriving business is access to opportunity, yet for many Black women entrepreneurs, that access is still out of reach.

With 61% of Black women self-funding their startups and facing higher rejection rates for loans and venture capital, the odds remain stacked against them.

At Flyte, we're dedicated to helping level the playing field by providing the education, mentorship, and resources entrepreneurs need to build sustainable, thriving businesses.

Find each other.

In this clip, Mia Borders shares one piece of advice for entrepreneurs: build real connections. Even if you are in different industries, there are always points where you can support, recommend, and uplift one another.

She also reminds us how powerful it is to have a space where you can admit, “It was really hard today,” and know others understand. That is what Flyte is about. A community of women learning, growing, and building together.

Having a mentor can change the way you see your business.

Flyte cohort member Michon shares how working with a mentor has helped her stay organized, identify gaps she couldn’t see on her own, and find better solutions when things were not working.

Sometimes you just need someone in your corner who can ask the right questions and hold you accountable.

Applications are closing soon for the Entrepreneur Empowerment Program. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the next cohort.

Sometimes the simplest tools make the biggest difference.

Cohort member, Michon, shares how staying organized starts with something simple: a notebook. By writing down ideas, planning content, and capturing insights from mentor meetings, she’s able to keep her business goals clear and focused.
Every night, she reviews her notes and organizes her ideas for the week ahead. Her mentor, Latrina, has a similar practice to keep herself organized.

At Flyte, mentors help entrepreneurs develop practical systems that keep their businesses moving forward.
Applications for the 2026–27 Entrepreneur Empowerment Program are open now. Apply by March 31.

You don’t need 100,000 followers. You need your people.

In this clip, Mia Borders shares how staying ahead in any industry starts with learning. Podcasts and newsletters help her stay informed, but the real focus is building true fandom, not just chasing engagement.

The goal is not just likes and scrolls. It is creating a core group who believes in what you are building, supports your work, and feels like they are part of the journey.
If 100 people truly value what you do, that can be enough.

What are you doing to turn attention into loyalty?
