Big dreams deserve grand openings.

Since 2017, Flyte alumni April Okpo, along with her husband, Ogban, has been building a loyal New Orleans following through the Tanjariné food truck — one bold, plant-based meal at a time.

At the center of the story is the Mandela Burger: Tanjariné’s signature Nigerian-inspired vegan burger and a familiar favorite at festivals, pop-ups and stops across the city. Tanjariné’s vibrant, plant-based food has also earned national recognition from USA TODAY’s 10Best.

Through years of food-truck service, festivals and pop-ups, April continued growing that following while working toward a permanent home for Tanjariné.

Now, that vision has a home.

April is preparing to open Café Tanjariné, the business’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant — a permanent place for the Nigerian-inspired flavors and plant-based comfort food New Orleanians have come to know and love.

Access to financing is one of the greatest barriers small-business owners face, and Flyte is honored to work alongside April to secure the funding needed to take this major next step.

Every business begins with a dream. This room was full of them.

Last month, we welcomed the 2026 Flyte Entrepreneur Empowerment cohort with an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration. From first introductions to future collaborations, Black women entrepreneurs from across New Orleans gathered to share their stories and invest in what’s next.

Over the coming year, these founders will strengthen their businesses, build financial confidence, and grow alongside a community that’s cheering them on every step of the way.

Having a mentor can change the way you see your business.

Flyte cohort member Michon shares how working with a mentor has helped her stay organized, identify gaps she couldn’t see on her own, and find better solutions when things were not working.

Sometimes you just need someone in your corner who can ask the right questions and hold you accountable.

Sometimes the simplest tools make the biggest difference.

Cohort member, Michon, shares how staying organized starts with something simple: a notebook. By writing down ideas, planning content, and capturing insights from mentor meetings, she’s able to keep her business goals clear and focused.
Every night, she reviews her notes and organizes her ideas for the week ahead. Her mentor, Latrina, has a similar practice to keep herself organized.

At Flyte, mentors help entrepreneurs develop practical systems that keep their businesses moving forward.
