Daniel Wendt, Partner with New York Life Developing Purpose-Driven Individuals into Future Financial Professionals & Leaders My job isn’t to hand out jobs, it’s to build careers. I’m a teacher at heart.

I work with purpose-driven people who want to take control of their future, serve their communities, and grow into true financial professionals and leaders. Whether you’re coming from education, real estate, military service, or financial services, if you’ve got grit, emotional intelligence, and a hunger to grow, I want to talk to you. I take people from launch to leadership by teaching them the s

ystems, the thinking, and the values that drive lasting success in this business. I help my team not just learn how to succeed, but why it matters. Even when someone doesn’t become a client, they walk away with more value than when they came in, because that’s the standard we hold ourselves to. I got into this business after seeing a New York Life professional lift a huge burden off my own parents’ shoulders. That moment changed my life. Now I help others create moments like that every day. If you’re ready to build a practice, not just a position - and if you believe in doing the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons - let’s connect. NYL Annuities on LinkedIn posted this graphic earlier. Most people think retirement planning is about helping someone get to retirement. That’s incomplete.

The harder question is what happens after they get there, especially when “they” is a married couple and one spouse may live well into their 90s. That can be 30+ years of income decisions, market decisions, tax decisions, healthcare decisions, and family decisions after the paychecks stop.

This is where our work gets interesting. A lot of people are taught to think about financial planning as investments first - build the portfolio, chase the return, and hope the math works - but hope is not a strategy, and “average life expectancy” is a pretty weak foundation when the real risk is that someone lives longer than expected.

For new advisors, this is one of the clearest examples of why the work we do matters. Clients do not just need someone who can talk about accumulation. They need someone who can help them think through income, protection, guarantees, trade-offs, and the possibility that retirement may last a lot longer than they planned.

That is a real planning opportunity, and despite all the supposed disruption from AI and other headwinds, it is one of the reasons I believe this career still has so much room for people who are willing to learn the craft the right way.

The most rehearsed candidate in the room isn't always the one who gets the offer. According to communication expert Charles Duhigg, what actually makes an impression is a lot more human than that. This article is worth sharing with anyone heading into an interview soon:
