A space heater fire also caused this agency’s largest home fire. Be safe- use them with care!

Within the last month, the city of Strongsville has had two significant structure fires resulting in almost $200,000 in losses.

The official cause of these fires are still pending, but in both cases, the investigation involves portable space heaters and surrounding combustible items.

Please don't take the use of space heaters lightly. Portable heating equipment has become the second leading cause of home fires in the U.S., and the third leading cause of home fire deaths!

The Strongsville Fire Department urges you to take note of safety precautions -- like DO NOT leave a heater unattended, keep papers, blankets, curtains and other combustibles at least three feet away, and keep them on the floor rather than on furniture.
