By June 1st, only about 45% of people are still sticking to their New Year's Resolutions?

Today is Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday that celebrates and honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Observed every year on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day in a nod to the tradition of placing flowers or other decorative displays at gravesites.

The origins of Memorial Day date back to the Civil War, which claimed the lives of some 620,000 soldiers. In the aftermath, devastated communities sought to honor their dead. The commemoration caught on across the nation, eventually expanding to honor fallen soldiers from all wars, but it wasn’t until 1971 that Memorial Day became a federal holiday.

Today, many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the Summer season.

First Choice branches will be closed today in observation of Memorial Day. All digital assets are working like online banking and our mobile app. We will be back tomorrow to serve you, our community. Until then, please be safe and have a beautiful day.

"We can't afford a house."

At First Choice, we've, unfortunately, heard this a lot - especially in recent years. After reflection, the best response we've found for younger people thinking about renting versus buying is simple:

Today is World Password Day. This is a great time to use stronger passwords, update long-lost passwords and update PINs where necessary.

What makes a good password?

First, it needs to be hard to guess. If you use someone's name (specifically your own), and a number sequence like 123, it's not a great password.

Next, it should be using a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. And I don't mean like 'FJSdodjfjkf123!@ #' - that is a sequence, so don't use it!

Finally, it should be long. How long? Try over 20 characters long where you can! At 20 characters long, using the other rules above, it would take a cloud computer setup YEARS to guess it correctly:)
