On Fri Oct 16, the Nasdaq fell 2.1% and the S&P 500 fell 1.1%.
Investors questioned whether AI spending can justify its cost and debt.
CoreWeave, an AI cloud company, dropped about 12%.
The Nasdaq ended the week down 4.5%.

Hot inflation just hit the AI trade. 🔥

Quick breakdown:
📊 September CPI came in at 3.7% a year (up from 3.4% in August). Core: 2.6%. Reported Wed, Oct 14.
📉 That day Nvidia fell 3.2%, Dell dropped 11%, and CoreWeave sank about 15% on debt worries.
🏦 Traders now fear the Fed isn't done raising rates.

Why you should care: AI companies run on borrowed money. When rates rise, that debt costs more, and chip stocks feel it first.

The twist: money ran to safety. The Dow gained 1.1% Thursday to 52,178 as bonds rallied. For the week so far: Nasdaq -2.4%, S&P 500 -0.9%, Dow +1.0%.

What I'm watching next week: Tesla, Netflix and Lam Research earnings, then the Fed meeting on Oct 28. Yields drive the AI trade.

My take as your professor: stocks priced on future growth feel rate shocks first. Watch yields before you watch charts.

Why it moved: Money rotated into quality names as AI stocks sold off.

🔄 THE COMEBACK: Lululemon ($LULU) | +5% (Thu)
A beaten-down name bounced.
Why it moved: Money rotated into consumer stocks that had lagged all year.

🚀 BREAKOUT STAR: UnitedHealth ($UNH) | +4.7% (Wed)
Q3 profit of $4.69 a share beat the $4.14 estimate.
Why it moved: Management raised its profit outlook again.

🛡️ BEST DEFENSE: Kroger ($KR) | +3.9% (Wed)
Groceries don't care about AI headlines.
Why it moved: Investors ran from tech to everyday-needs stocks.

Beat estimates and raised its forecast. Stock still fell.
Why it moved: A big one-time charge crushed reported earnings and the stock was already priced high.

Why it moved: Barclays cut it to Equal Weight, and AI hardware names got hit.
