Attended my daughter’s college orientation yesterday and this slide made me stop and reflect.

We often celebrate the successes and try to forget the failures.

But what if both are needed?

Looking back, some of my greatest lessons came from the things that didn’t go as planned.

Every brick counts.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from a setback?

I learned something this week that I never really thought about before.

Someone I know was trying to open a bank account after receiving a tax refund check, and what seemed like a simple task turned out to be more complicated than expected.

I always assumed that a valid driver's license would be enough identification. But due to the person's status, their valid driver's license became secondary identification, and additional documents were needed to open the account.

It made me realize how many systems we navigate every day without really thinking about them until we run into a barrier ourselves.

Sometimes the things that seem simple aren't simple for everyone.

Just something I learned this week and thought was interesting.

Graduation season has me thinking...

When does someone actually become an adult?

Is it when they graduate? Get a job? Move out? Pay their own bills?

I've realized that adulthood isn't one big moment.

It's a lot of small decisions made over time.

And maybe that's why conversations about money, responsibility, and planning matter so much.

Because one day, those little decisions become the life we're living.

What's something you learned about adulthood that surprised you?

I was having lunch with a friend yesterday, and we started talking about life.

She has grown children, but she's also helping care for her parents who are in their late 70s and 80s. They rely on her in many ways, including financially.

As we talked, she shared how difficult it has been to find work and how she's been relying on savings to get by. Thankfully, she has a Plan B and is willing to do what she needs to do to make it work.

But it made me wonder...

How many people are quietly carrying the weight of taking care of everyone else while trying to hold their own life together too?

Sometimes when we think about planning, we focus on the people who depend on us.

But who is helping take care of the caregiver?

Just something I've been thinking about lately.

Has there ever been a season where you felt responsible for everyone else?

This past weekend at church, our reverend spoke about church planting, and it got me thinking.

What am I planting?

And is my mission still the same?

Over the years, my roles have changed. I've been a mother, a wife, an ARMHS worker, and now I'm helping families with life planning and financial protection.

But the more I reflected, the more I realized my mission hasn't changed at all.

If anything, it feels stronger than ever.

Maybe it's always been about helping people find hope, clarity, and peace in whatever season they're in.

Sometimes we plant seeds. Sometimes we help till the ground.

Either way, I'm grateful to be part of the process.

Someone asked me a question recently:

"If I just got approved for SSI, can I still get life insurance?"

And it made me think...

How many opportunities do we miss because we assume we already know the answer?

The truth is, every situation is different.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is ask questions and learn what options are actually available.

You might be surprised by what you find.

What's something you've assumed the answer was "no" to without ever asking?

I was talking with my daughters recently about money and asked them a question:

"What would you do if someone handed you $10,000 today?"

It's an interesting question because most people think having more money would solve a lot of problems.

But then I started wondering...

Would having more money actually change anything if we don't know what to do with it?

If $10,000 came today, would it still be there a year from now?

It led to a really good conversation about spending, saving, and creating opportunities for the future.

Sometimes it's not about how much money we have.

It's about what we do with it.

We had a family picnic on Saturday, and while I was busy BBQing, I overheard the girls talking to Rohan about going to middle school.

Sharing advice.
Telling stories.
Helping him prepare for what's next.

And it made me stop and think...

When did they become old enough to start giving advice instead of needing it?

One is getting ready for middle school.
One graduates this week.

And somehow I'm still trying to figure out where the time went

Got to tour the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis today!

One random fun fact I learned:
The little letter and number on the top corner of your dollar bill actually tells you which Federal Reserve district it came from 😄

Minneapolis is the 9th District!

The more I learn, the more I realize how many things about money we were never really taught growing up. Learning little by little really does make a difference!
