Scam Alert: Medicare Benefits Are NOT Being Canceled
We’ve received multiple calls from people worried after getting voicemails claiming their Medicare benefits may be canceled or interrupted.
Please know this is a common scare tactic used by scammers.
Medicare will not call you out of the blue threatening to cancel your benefits or demanding personal information, banking details, or your Medicare number.
If you receive one of these calls:
Do not press any buttons.
Do not call the number back.
Do not give out your Medicare number, Social Security number, or banking information.
Hang up and call Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE if you are unsure.
Scammers often call many people in the same area at once, which is why you may hear about several people receiving the same message in one day.
When in doubt, pause before you panic. Call someone you trust or contact Medicare directly.
