There is fraud around every corner. Heres another example of fraud occurring in the real estate space. Stay wary!
🚨 RENTAL SCAM ALERT! 🚨
A scammer is currently advertising on TikTok one of our legitimate FOR-SALE listings as a rental—using the property's real photos and information and offering it for an unbelievably low price.
Here's how the scam works: The scammer poses as the “landlord” on social media outlets such as TikTok and Facebook Marketplace and collects a security deposit and/or rent electronically, and then disappears. The victim never gets the house—and loses their money.
🚩🚩🚩Red flags to watch for:
• Rent that seems way too good to be true
• Someone who won't meet you at the property
• Requests to send money before verifying the owner/agent
• Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, wire transfers, etc.
• A property advertised for rent that you can verify is actually FOR SALE
DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE SENDING MONEY!
Search the address and independently verify who owns or represents the property.
If you see a suspicious rental listing, don't send money. Report it!
Use a licensed real estate agent that specializes in rentals. 👩💼 👨💼
