Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) starts next week.

Here's something I wish more people understood.

The best Medicare plan isn't necessarily the one with the most benefits. It's the one that works best for YOU.

Every fall, the Medicare commercials start promising more. More dental. More vision. More money back. More extras.

And some of those benefits can be genuinely valuable.

But here's what we want people to understand before they make a decision: A plan with a $0 premium isn't necessarily your least expensive option.

A plan with great dental benefits isn't necessarily a great choice if your doctors aren't in its network.

And a plan that worked beautifully for your neighbor might be completely wrong for you.

Medicare isn't one-size-fits-all.

That's why, at Turning 65 Solutions, we look at the whole picture.

Your doctors. Your prescriptions. Your medical needs. Your budget. And how you actually use your healthcare.

Sometimes that means recommending a different plan.
And sometimes it means telling you that the plan you already have is still your best option.

We're not interested in changing your Medicare just for the sake of changing it.

With Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period beginning October 15, now is the time to get your 2027 coverage reviewed.

WHO WE ARE | Meet Teryn Zech

If you’ve called our office recently, there’s a good chance you’ve already met the newest member of the Turning 65 Solutions team.
Meet Teryn Zech, our new Administrative Assistant!

Teryn helps keep things moving around here — answering calls, returning messages, helping clients, supporting our agents, and generally keeping the rest of us organized.

And that last part is something she genuinely enjoys. Teryn says she likes supporting other people and helping their lives run a little more smoothly.

But there’s a lot more to Teryn than what you’ll hear on the other end of the phone.

She’s an Army veteran, loves animals, spending time with her family and grandkids, checking out new restaurants and local events, and apparently takes Halloween seriously enough to have a collection devoted to it. 🎃

She also loves to cook and bake — and has even written her own cookbook.

When we asked what she wants our clients to feel after talking with her, her answer was simple: “That I was helpful and supportive.”

That fits pretty well with what we try to do around here.

We’re very happy to have Teryn as part of the T65S family. If you haven’t met her yet, be sure to say hello the next time you call or stop by! 💙

🎉 Four Years of Kristin! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating Kristin Dickey’s 4-year anniversary with Turning 65 Solutions!

Four years ago, Kristin joined our team. Since then, her role has grown, her responsibilities have grown, and—probably through no fault of her own—she’s become one of the people who keeps this whole place running. 😂

Our clients know Kristin as the person who will answer the question, solve the problem, track down the answer, and make sure things actually get done. Around the office, we know her as someone we can count on every single day.

Over the past four years, Kristin has continued to learn and grow. She became a licensed insurance agent, took on more responsibility with our clients and operations, and ultimately stepped into the role of Operations Manager.

But titles don't really tell the story.

What matters most is the way she takes care of people. Kristin genuinely cares about our clients, takes pride in doing things the right way, and has played a huge role in helping Turning 65 Solutions become the agency we are today.

Kristin, thank you for four years of hard work, loyalty, growth, laughs, and occasionally keeping the rest of us in line. 😄

We’re looking for a friendly, organized person to join our team at Turning 65 Solutions.

🕙 Hours: Mon–Fri, 10 AM – 2 PM (perfect school-day schedule!)
📅 Position: Administrative Assistant/Social Media Manager
📍 Location: Right here in New Braunfels

What you’ll do:
✅ Greet clients and answer phones
✅ Schedule appointments & keep things organized
✅ Help with light office tasks
✅ Assist with posting and sharing on our social media 💻📱

Heading out of town? Don’t forget to pack your Medicare coverage.

Okay, technically you can’t pack it. But you probably should know how it works before you need a doctor 500 miles from home.

One question we hear pretty regularly is:

“Will my Medicare coverage work when I travel?”

The answer depends on what kind of Medicare coverage you have.

With Original Medicare, you can generally use your coverage anywhere in the United States as long as the doctor or hospital accepts Medicare.

With a Medicare Advantage plan, things can be different.

Some plans have networks and service areas. Emergency and urgently needed care are covered when you're away from home, but routine or non-emergency care outside your plan's network may work differently—or may not be covered at all.

And if you spend part of the year somewhere else? That's an even more important conversation to have before choosing a plan.

We see plenty of people here in New Braunfels who travel, visit family out of state, take long RV trips, or spend extended periods away from Texas.

Your Medicare coverage should fit the way you actually live, not just look good on a benefits summary.

Before your next trip, know the answers to a few questions:

✈️ What happens if I need urgent care?
🚑 What happens in an emergency?
🩺 Can I see a doctor for routine care while I'm away?
💊 Can I refill my prescriptions out of town?
🏡 What if I'm gone for several months?

Those are much better questions to ask before you leave New Braunfels than from a doctor's waiting room in Colorado.

Labor Day Office Closure

Even Medicare agents need a day off every once in a while. 😎

Turning 65 Solutions will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Our team will be spending the long weekend with family, friends, and hopefully doing as little actual labor as possible.

We’ll be back in the office Tuesday, September 8, rested, recharged, and ready to help with all things Medicare.

⭐ Five-Star Friday: The Boss Has Still Got It

Every once in a while, we like to remind Ron that owning Turning 65 Solutions doesn’t mean he gets to just sit in his office, drink coffee, and tell everyone else what to do.

Apparently, he still knows his way around Medicare, too. 😂

This week’s ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review comes from Mary M. of New Braunfels, who first heard Ron on the radio and decided to give us a call:

“I have Medicare. I can see any doctor I want… right?”

Well… maybe.

This is one of those Medicare questions where the answer depends on what kind of coverage you actually have.

With Original Medicare, you can generally see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare.

But if you have a Medicare Advantage plan, your plan may have a provider network. Depending on whether it's an HMO or PPO, going outside that network could mean paying more — or, in some situations, having no coverage at all except for emergencies or other specifically covered circumstances.

And here's where people get tripped up:

“My doctor accepts Medicare” does NOT necessarily mean “my doctor accepts my Medicare Advantage plan.”

Those are two completely different questions.

Before choosing a Medicare plan, we always recommend checking the doctors and hospitals that matter to you — not just looking at the premium, dental benefits, grocery cards, or whatever happens to be getting advertised on television that week.

Because a Medicare plan with a bunch of extras isn't much of a bargain if your doctor isn't in the network.
