For senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return, the IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2018 or 2019.

Scammers are angling for ways to cheat recipients of the checks ranging from $1,200 (individuals) to $2,400 (couples) and $500 for each qualifying child. The IRS will NOT be calling or emailing anyone for account information.

Latest on receiving stimulus check: If you previously provided the IRS with your direct deposit information for tax refunds, the stimulus payment will be sent there. Otherwise, it will be mailed to the address the IRS has on file. (Yes, if you’ve moved, it could go to your old address.) The IRS says it will have a portal up in “mid-April” where you can input direct deposit info.
