Today marks the 160th anniversary of the founding of the first Hermann Sons Life lodge in Texas. On July 6, 1861, a group of men led by John Lemnitzer and Jakob Goll gathered in San Antonio and voted to form Harmonia Lodge. The organization’s presence in the area grew quickly and by 1890 there were enough lodges to form the Grand Lodge. We pause today to honor the memory of those founding fathers and their legacy of “Friendship, Love and Loyalty” which continues to this day.
