The IRS has announced that the 2026 filing season opens January 26, with a deadline of April 15, 2026. This year includes several new tax law provisions that may affect deductions, credits, and reporting—such as the new Schedule 1-A, digital asset forms, and updated refund and account requirements. With more than 164 million returns expected, accuracy and informed filing are more important than ever.

NAEA encourages taxpayers to use IRS online tools and to work with a credentialed tax professional when questions arise. Enrolled Agents are tax experts and are authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS and can help navigate these changes with confidence.

As we prepare for another busy and successful tax season, we wanted to share a few convenient ways we can work together this year.

Along with our traditional in-office appointments, we’re pleased to continue offering our drop-off service, which does not require an appointment. If you prefer this option, simply gather your tax documents in a sealed envelope or package and drop them off during normal business hours. Please be sure to include your name and a phone number so we can contact you once your return is ready.

📢 Important Tax Info: Don't Be Fooled by False Rumors! 📢

We've noticed some misinformation circulating online regarding a supposed change in tax law allowing parents paying child support to claim their children as dependents without the permission of the custodial parent, even if the child doesn't live with them.

Here's what you need to know:

FALSE: Parents paying child support can claim the child as a dependent without permission, even if the child doesn't live with them.

FALSE: Parents receiving child support cannot claim their child as a dependent.

TRUTH: The IRS rules for claiming dependents remain unchanged. The custodial parent (the parent with whom the child lives for the majority of the year) is generally entitled to claim the child as a dependent.

In addition to our regularly scheduled in-office appointments, we’re happy to announce that we’ll be continuing our expanded drop-off services this year – no appointment needed!
If you’d like to drop off your tax documents rather than sit for a traditional appointment, feel free to gather all your documents in a sealed envelope and/or package and drop it off anytime during office hours. Please be sure to include your name and telephone number on the package as well, so that we may reach you once the return is completed!
