How do we honor the public servants who make Neosho thrive? The answer is before you. 🎨Artist Teri Diggs created a design that tells our community's story—from the rainbow trout of our National Fish Hatchery to the flowering dogwood representing our civic organizations, from our first responders symbolized by Willie, Neosho Police Departments' vintage Volkswagen Beetle to George Washington Carver himself, who began his educational journey right here in Neosho.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

An island in rough seas; Ritchey Mansion in Newtonia, Missouri. Matthew Ritchey was a Union man in country that saw the most intense guerilla.warfare of the Civil War, and the area was often in midst of Confederate control. It survived two Civil War battles that saw fighting as close as the front yard; 15 year old Myra Belle Shirley, spy, courrier for Confederate forces, debutante who spoke at least 3 languages, played several instruments and as her father's daughter, was exceptionally skilled riding horses, escaped from her Union soldier captors, by jumping from a second story bedroom window onto the back of a horse- perhaps not an embellished story as she is better known as Belle Starr, the Bandit Queen from her post-war exploits, and; this spot also saw General Joseph Shelby begin his campaign through Missouri, which came very close to changing the tide in the Western theater. And yes, there are a number of accounts of unexplained events, apparitions and disembodied voices.
