Let me tell you a story.
Back in 2020, I was working as a transaction coordinator for a real estate team when a class about flipping houses showed up on the office calendar.
It was led by a small team of women who had built a business flipping and staging homes, and I sat there listening to their story.
One of them, Gwen, shared so honestly. They didn’t have it all figured out. There wasn’t some secret formula. They had simply taken a leap of faith and then kept taking the next leap. They cared deeply about transforming neglected houses into beautiful homes on a budget.
I was inspired, but that’s an understatement.
Something inside me was set on fire. For the first time, flipping houses didn’t feel like something people on TV did. It felt like something we could figure out too.
So we took the leap - we bought our first flip.
When that project was nearly finished in 2021, Gwen’s staging company hosted a warehouse sale. I was absolutely in heaven. Austin had to bring the truck to help me get it all home. 😆 I bought pieces from their inventory to stage our very first renovation, and I made sure to thank her for inspiring me.
Fast forward to 2026.
Since then, we’ve renovated more than 25 homes. Last year, we shifted our focus from primarily flipping houses to helping clients renovate their own homes. Along the way, I realized there was a real need in our market for home staging, so I decided to put our staging inventory to work for other’s listings.
“But I’ll limit it to three kits,” I said.
I didn’t need to grow. I didn’t need a warehouse. I’d just stage a few homes here and there whenever someone called - no big deal.
Except it didn’t stay that way.
The demand kept growing, and I quickly realized I didn’t have enough inventory to keep up.
Then a friend called.
“Hey, I have some extra storage space you could use.”
Just like that, a door opened.
THE SAME DAY (I just had to confirm this in my messages. It was 3 hours later.) I received a message from Gwen.
After more than a decade of building a successful staging business, she was ready for a new season and wanted to give me the first opportunity to purchase the inventory she had spent years building.
The day before, I would have had to pass. But now I had the space.
The timing was so precise, I knew it was my time, once again, to take the leap.
So, over the last couple of months, we’ve been gradually transferring pieces from Gwen’s inventory into Dwell’s clients’ homes.
Back in 2020, Gwen had no idea that sharing her story in a conference room would help change the trajectory of someone else’s life.
But it did.
And now, years later, the Lord has woven our stories together again in a way neither of us could have planned.
I am thankful to Gwen for trusting me with the opportunity, and wishing her the BEST days ahead in this new season.
The kingdom of God is built one faithful leap at a time. Sometimes you don’t realize whose life your obedience is impacting until years later. And sometimes, by God’s grace, you get to see the story come full circle.
(Second pic is our first flip with a huge canvas I bought from the warehouse sale. 🥲)
