Passed in March, American Rescue Plan includes a provision that offered unemployed people free health insurance coverage through COBRA for six months.

However, that subsidy ends this Thursday, Sept. 28th in most states!

CMS is officially extending 2022's Open Enrollment Period (OEP)!
OEP will now be Nov. 1st, 2021 through Jan. 15th, 2022 in all states that use the federal exchange. It's expected that some state exchanges, which can make their own OEP dates, will follow suit. Several state exchanges have already extended their deadlines.

All states start Nov. 1st (California allows renewals starting Oct. 1st).

Here are a few state exchange states with longer OEPs:
California- Ends 1/31/2022
Colorado- Ends 1/15/2022
Nevada- Ends 1/15/2022
New Jersey- Ends 1/31/2022
Pennsylvania- Ends 1/15/2022

CMS is proposing extending Open Enrollment by 30 days (Nov. 1st-January 15th).

Some insurers are pushing back against that proposal. America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the top health insurance lobbying group, says the change could cause gaps in coverage and confusion.

Proponents say Americans will have more time to enroll in coverage, and therefore may be more likely to do so.
