If you are 20-40(ish) years old, read this.
I have seen this scenario too many times now: Families, spouses, and children left with nothing in the aftermath of an unexpected and untimely death. Grieving, scrambling, debt burdened and GoFundMe aint cutting it.
It is devastating to watch, but so easily avoidable.
I do not care if you are married, single, kids, no kids. There is no better time to get your 20, 25, or 30 year term life insurance policy than right now.
Do not delay. I do not care who you go with, I just want to see you get it done. We all assume way too much about the next step, the next breath, the next day... so please do not make excuses, just do it.
TIPS, FACTS & TIMESAVERS:
LOCKED IN: Rates are locked for the length of the term and are based on at your age + health status of when you apply. This is an incentive to do it as young as possible. Don't wait.
- WORK COVERAGE: is not good enough. You should view it as supplemental coverage, and NOT primary coverage. Take ownership and get your own policy. Owned and paid by you. Designed for you.
- QUOTES: Life insurance quotes mean nothing. Your actual rate is determined in the underwriting process. Carriers look at medical records, driving record, prescription history, blood panel, urine and smoking/to***co status.
- WHO TO USE: Work with a trusted agent/broker. Do not feel like you need to inquire online. You will just get a ton of calls from strangers and they will sell your data. Use your network and if you have a Farm Bureau or Alfa agent for home and auto, work with them. They have good products, rates and excellent claims service. Additionally, I represent a host of good carriers like Auto Owners, Cincinnati, Banner, Protective, Lincoln Financial, and Symetra.
- HOW MUCH: I have an interactive calculator that I can send you that helps determine exactly how much coverage you need. Typically, I see folks going for $500k-$3m but it really depends on your individual profile and goals. Message me for the calculator (absolutely free and no obligation).
- MEDICAL: For benefit amounts over $500k, generally those will require blood and urine analysis with a physical (from the comfort of your home). Don't be a baby, it is not a big deal. Some companies have gotten really sharp with their analytics and can issue policies in larger amounts without needles and p*e.
- DON'T LIE: Do not lie on your application. Be 100% honest about to***co use, medical history and anything they ask you. You aint slick, they will catch it and could deny a claim if you are dishonest on your application.
- POLICY RIDERS: Ask your agent about Child Term Rider. This gives coverage for children and future children. Usually smaller amounts of 10-25k, but it is valuable coverage if they have medical issues that make them otherwise uninsurable. Ask about Waiver of Premium Rider & Accidental Death Benefit too. Another good option to ask about is Return of Premium (you get your money back if you outlive the policy).
The best time to put life insurance in place is before your family ever needs it. If this posts feels urgent, that's because it is.
