Tennessee lost one of its very best yesterday. At Celero, this one feels personal.
We were born in Tennessee, just like Dolly, and we were fortunate to share Brentwood as home with her. But Dolly Parton belonged to all of Tennessee. She represented so much of what it means to be a Volunteer: dream big, work hard, take care of your people, and never forget where you came from.
From humble beginnings in the mountains of East Tennessee, Dolly built an extraordinary life on talent, perseverance, faith in herself, and an absolute refusal to let anyone else define what was possible for her. She was the American Dream.
Yet for all she accomplished, perhaps her greatest legacy is what she did for others. She gave generously, often quietly and without needing the credit. She put books into the hands of millions of children, helped families rebuild after tragedy, supported education and healthcare, created jobs and opportunity in her home state, and spent a lifetime lifting people up.
And somehow, through all of it, she brought people together. Different backgrounds. Different generations. Different beliefs. It didn't seem to matter. Everybody loved Dolly. That's a rare gift, and our country could use more of it.
Thank you, Dolly, for making Tennessee proud, for showing the world what a Volunteer looks like, and for reminding all of us that you can chase enormous dreams without ever forgetting your roots or your responsibility to others.
