Every day I try to do 3 things I don't want to do. Working out is typically 1 of my 3.

Even after all of the workouts I've done, I never "feel" like working out.

But Saturday, Billy and I tackled 1 of the 3 things.

We walked and jogged a 10K.

I'll most remember the moment right before crossing the finish line.

I don't normally jog 6 miles, so at the end of the race, both of my calf muscles just cramped in protest.

But I kept on going.

Why? I could see the finish line.

I decided to lean into the hard, lean into the challenge. The challenge I KNEW I would overcome by not stopping.

So, with calves cramping I crossed the finish line.

Am I still sore today, on Monday?

You bet!

Why do I challenge myself to do hard things?

Because I don't grow when things are easy.

Whether life, business or working out, everything worth accomplishing in life takes hard work.

What hard are you challenging yourself to today?

As a small business owner, we are always trying to watch our expenses.

But it's also necessary to make investments in our business when there is a clear payoff.

Having clean, updated financials allows you to:
save time not doing it yourself
see where your money is going (and how your revenue is growing or declining)
your cash flow position so you can plan
see your cash "runway" and what you need to do now to plan for the rest of 2026 and into 2027

The most successful business owners always have an eye on the future, and have the data available to them NOW to make decisions about TOMORROW.

Make the investment with a true professional that delivers clean and clear books with a customized touch.

HI - I thought it was time to reintroduce myself! I'm Maria, wife, mom and bonus mom to 4, lover of numbers, books and outdoors, chai tea and deep conversations. Owner of a bookkeeping firm where I love taking care of my dear customers.

Of all the things I do in my life, I love being a wife and mom the most. I just love taking care of my people.

My son graduated last weekend. Yes, it's pretty tough realizing we've reached the end of life at his beloved school. However, let me tell you, I'm even more excited about the next chapter of his life. He's going to do great things in college, I have no doubt. I know that God will be there to help him navigate each step of his journey and help him make every decision he faces. We share an incredible bond that's been built much like the growth of a strong oak tree. I've written more about this on my blog you can find linked in my profile.

If you've got a teenager, let me give you some advice. Love on them like crazy. Make the time for the stories, the game, the short conversation before they dash off to the next thing. The teenage years have been one of my favorite times. I'm telling you, I'm going to miss my always-moving yet loving son. He's still here this summer, so it's not goodbye quite yet, but if you have a teenager, make sure you spend time with them and make memories that allow the roots of their trees to grow deep, so when the day comes that they too, leave the nest, you'll know that they are starting life on a strong and firm foundation.

Quick question — do you work with different accounting software?

One of the most common questions I get is about software.

The truth is, not every business uses the same tools — and that’s okay.

What matters most is having a system that:
• Keeps your records accurate
• Makes reporting clear
• Helps you stay consistent

Because it’s not just about the software —
it’s about how your numbers are managed.

What are you currently using for your bookkeeping?

The smartest tax move you can make in May isn’t what most people think.

Most people only think about taxes once a year.

But the smartest business owners?
They plan ahead.

May is the perfect time to:
• Review your year-to-date numbers
• Adjust for any unexpected changes
• Start planning before it becomes urgent

Because last-minute decisions rarely lead to the best outcomes.

Tax strategy isn’t seasonal — it’s ongoing.

If you haven’t looked at your numbers since filing, now’s the time.

If your business has grown, your system should grow with it.

Spreadsheets can work — but only up to a certain point.

As things get busier, they can quickly become:
• Hard to manage
• Easy to overlook details
• Prone to errors

And what used to feel “organized” starts creating more confusion.
At some stage, it’s not about working harder —
it’s about having the right systems in place.

If your current setup feels overwhelming, it might be time to simplify it.

Your books are telling you what’s going on in your business… are you actually looking?

Your numbers already reflect everything:
• Where your money is going
• What’s working
• What needs attention

But if your books aren’t updated or reviewed regularly, that insight gets lost.

And when you don’t have clear numbers, decisions become guesswork.

Accurate books don’t just track — they guide.

When was the last time you reviewed your numbers?

Tax season is over… but your bookkeeping shouldn’t stop here.

This is where a lot of businesses fall behind.

After filing, things slow down:
• Receipts stop getting tracked
• Books stop getting updated
• Everything gets pushed to “later”

And by the time it matters again, it’s already overwhelming.
Staying consistent now keeps everything manageable later.

Don’t wait until next tax season to get back on track.
