Sunshine Tip of the Week ☀️

Save digital copies of your insurance documents somewhere you can access them even if you can't get back into your home.

Consider saving your:
🏠 Homeowners policy
🌊 Flood policy
🚗 Auto insurance cards
📸 Home inventory
📞 Carrier claims information

Email them to yourself or securely store them in the cloud.

After a major storm, the last place you want your only copy of the policy is inside a property you can't access.

Your hurricane supplies may be ready, but when was the last time you looked at your insurance?

September is National Preparedness Month, and Florida hurricane preparation should include more than batteries, bottled water, and shutters.

Take a few minutes to review your hurricane deductible, flood insurance, coverage limits, home inventory, and carrier claims information.

Preparation is much easier before a storm is on the forecast.

Save this checklist for hurricane season.

Your renewal date is not the only time you are allowed to ask insurance questions.

A home renovation, new roof, teen driver, vehicle purchase, valuable jewelry item, condo association change, or new mailing address may justify a policy review before renewal.

Insurance should reflect your life as it exists today, not how it looked when the policy was originally written.

Think back over the past six months. If something changed, contact your insurance agent and confirm whether the policy should change with it.

Sunshine Tip of the Week ☀️

Check whether your Florida auto policy includes uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

This coverage is designed to protect you and eligible insureds when an at-fault driver does not have enough bodily-injury liability insurance to address the covered damages.

Do not simply look for “UM” on the declarations page. Review the limit, whether it is stacked or non-stacked and which vehicles are included.

Ask your agent to explain how the option works under your specific policy.

Your Florida auto insurance policy is more than a monthly premium and an insurance card in your glove box.

Here are some of the coverages you may see on your policy:

🚗 Bodily Injury Liability — Helps protect you financially if you’re responsible for injuring someone in an accident.

🏠 Property Damage Liability — Helps pay for damage you cause to someone else’s vehicle or property.

🏥 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) — Florida’s no-fault coverage that can help with certain medical expenses and lost wages after an accident.

🛡️ Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage — Can help protect you when the at-fault driver has little or no bodily injury liability coverage.

🔧 Comprehensive Coverage — Covers certain non-collision losses such as theft, vandalism, falling objects, weather damage and animal strikes, subject to the policy.

💥 Collision Coverage — Helps pay for damage to your vehicle from a covered collision, subject to your deductible.

And then there are the limits and deductibles attached to those coverages, which can make two auto insurance policies that look similar very different.

The goal shouldn’t just be knowing your premium.

Know what your policy is actually designed to protect.

The cheapest auto quote can become the most expensive option after a serious crash.

Two Florida auto insurance quotes may look similar until you compare the liability limits, uninsured-motorist coverage and deductibles.

One quote might save money by placing more financial responsibility on you when something goes wrong.

Before choosing a policy, ask:
• What are the bodily-injury limits?
• Is uninsured-motorist coverage included?
• What deductibles apply?
• Are all drivers and vehicles listed correctly?

A lower premium is only valuable when you understand what was reduced to produce it.

Sunshine Tip of the Week ☀️

Know the loss-assessment limit on your condo insurance policy.

Loss-assessment coverage may help when the condo association charges unit owners for their share of certain covered losses. But the amount, cause of loss, and policy requirements matter.

Do not assume every association assessment is automatically insured.

Ask your agent to show you the limit, deductible, and situations in which the coverage may respond. This is especially important for Florida condo owners reviewing older policies.

Water in your home does not always mean the same insurance coverage applies.

Flooding from rising outside water and water backing up through a drain or sewer are generally treated differently by insurance policies.

A homeowners or condo policy may offer water-backup coverage through an endorsement, while flooding normally requires separate flood insurance.

The source of the water matters.

Ask whether your current policy includes water-backup protection, what limit applies, and how the deductible works. Then review your flood insurance separately.

08/17/2026

Your condo association’s insurance does not automatically protect everything inside your unit.

After damage, a condo owner may discover that the association handles certain portions of the building while the unit owner remains responsible for belongings, interior improvements, temporary living expenses, personal liability, or an assessment.

The exact dividing line depends on the association documents, master policy and individual condo insurance policy.

Florida condo insurance should not be purchased by guessing where the association’s responsibility ends. Review both sides before a loss forces the question.

Sunshine Tip of the Week ☀️

Did someone in your household recently start driving, change vehicles, move away for school, or begin keeping a car at a different address?

Tell your insurance agent.

An auto policy should accurately reflect the drivers, vehicles, and where those vehicles are normally kept. Waiting until a claim to explain a major change can create unnecessary complications.

A five-minute policy update is easier than sorting through incorrect information after an accident
