Every January we make a targeted effort to help our customers with life insurance, and every January the result is the same: we help a lot of people, but a lot more turn us down because they have coverage through work and they don’t feel like it’s something they need to worry about.

It makes me really upset that our society has made a habit of linking our employment with three ultra important things: health insurance, retirement savings, and life insurance.

Jobs change. Benefits at jobs change. These things are too important to say to yourself ”it’s taken care of through work” and close the book on it. Everyone should have a plan that they own and control. Additional retirement investments and a place to roll over 401K funds to consolidate rather than lose track of money as you change jobs. A supplementary life insurance plan. Knowledge about how to obtain health insurance if your employment changes.

I am not saying don’t take advantage of employer provided benefits. By all means, get everything you can, everything you deserve. But protect yourself from the future date when things change. If there is one thing you can be sure of in life it is that things WILL change.

That's 3, folks!

Today is three years since this agency became "mine". Three years of service. Three years of helping people recover from the unexpected! 👏🥂 As State Farm celebrates it's 💯th anniversary as a company, I hit 3 years of agency. I'll catch up to SF one day!

This year I celebrate with team member Cameron, who has embraced my mission more so than any team member before! Cameron reminds me of myself in some ways (don't worry Cameron, not ALL ways- I know there is a line where this stops being a compliment 🤣): she is smart, hardworking, authentic, and cares about doing the right thing for our customers. She understands that State Farm is the best because we are always striving to be our best, and do our best. She shows up to learn and grow! She makes me feel like my efforts to build a team that reflects and uplifts me are working!

Cheers to Cameron, to more great customers every year, and to continuing customers who continually remind me that I make a difference for them, and who appreciate my efforts.

This is the best "job" in the world, and I'm so glad I get to do it.

Today is two years in business for Marissa Johnson State Farm!

I tried to dress up this morning, but authenticity is the vibe here and “fancy” is not how I feel after this last year of agency or this last year of life, and I decided that’s OK! Team t-shirts are a more poetic fit for the moment!

Despite many challenges this past year, I remain so grateful for this business, this team, great customers, good health, and the ability to do tangible good in people’s lives every day.

Thank you for these last 2 years, and here’s to many, many more! 🥂🥳

Learning insurance is hard work, and it takes a long time to get good at it. Plus, I’ll admit that I am a perfectionist and I ask a lot of my team so that we can meet our customers expectations!

Today, on the 3 month anniversary of starting with our agency, Laura successfully helped a customer add a car, improve their coverage, and add a personal liability umbrella in a single seamless transaction without asking for help!

So we closed the office 30 minutes early to celebrate with Frozen Yogurt!
