❄️ Winter Is Coming — Is Your Home Ready? 🏠
With predictions calling for a tough winter filled with ice, snow, and extreme cold temperatures, now is the time to get your home and outbuildings ready before the first major storm hits.
A little preparation now can help prevent costly damage later. Here’s your winterization checklist:
🏠 Prepare Your Home
• Have your furnace/heating system inspected and serviced
• Change furnace filters and make sure vents are clear
• Insulate exposed pipes, especially in unheated areas
• Know where your main water shutoff is located
• Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses and shut off exterior water lines
• Clean gutters and downspouts so melting snow and ice can drain properly
• Check your roof for damaged or missing shingles
• Trim branches that could fall on your home during an ice or snowstorm
• Seal drafts around windows and doors
• Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
• Stock up on emergency supplies, flashlights, batteries, and backup heat sources
🌾 Don't Forget Your Outbuildings
• Inspect roofs for damage or weak areas
• Clear snow and ice from roofs when necessary and safe
• Protect exposed plumbing and water lines from freezing
• Make sure doors and windows close securely
• Check that barns, sheds, garages, and other structures are properly anchored and in good repair
• Store equipment, tools, and other valuables where they’re protected from the elements
• Keep pathways and entrances clear of snow and ice
