GENERATOR SAFETY

Oncor is reporting widespread power outages in our area as a result of the storms. Please be patient as utility workers work to restore power.

If you are using a portable generator, make sure that it is AT LEAST 20 feet from the structure, and face the exhaust away from the building or flammable surfaces.

Run any appliance directly to the generator, not though your home electrical system. This precaution prevents back feeding, which can injure utility workers or possibly cause fires.

UPDATE: A tornado warning has been issued for Nacogdoches County as a result of radar-indicated rotation.
Strong wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are possible in the next hour as Tropical Storm Beryl continues to move northeast through East Texas.
Avoid traveling unless its an emergency. If you are in a vehicle, try to find a building or structure to enter. Continue to monitor weather conditions and emergency alerts.
Non-emergency lines are down in the county. If you need to contact emergency services, dial 911

Traffic is heavier on East Texas roadways this afternoon as outlying rain bands move through the area. Visit drivetexas.org for live road conditions and closures statewide. Make sure your safety plan is in place ahead of the storm. Stay alert to high water conditions. Driving is discouraged in heavy rain/flooding conditions.

I will have a press conference today at 1:30 pm with the latest update on Hurricane Beryl from our state emergency operations center. Right now is the calm before the storm. Beryl can still move eastward and will strengthen before landfall tomorrow morning between Corpus Christi and Houston. Anyone planning to move away from the coast needs to move today. Residents staying in place should take precautions today for wind, heavy rain, potential flooding, storm surge on the coast, and possible tornados. Listen to your local officials for instructions in your area. For more information go to: https://tdem.texas.gov/beryl
