Missing a court date while you’re out on bond is something you need to take seriously — but ignoring the situation can make things worse.

If you realize you missed court:

✔️ Contact your attorney if you have one.
✔️ Find out what happened with your case and what steps may be available to address the missed appearance.
✔️ Don’t assume everything is fine just because nobody has contacted you yet.
✔️ Be honest about why you missed court. Communication matters.

A missed court date can affect both your criminal case and your bond, and what happens next will depend on your individual circumstances.

Collateral isn’t automatically a bad thing. It can simply be another tool used when evaluating and securing a bond.

This is one of the biggest points of confusion we hear from families.

If the court sets a bond, that number represents the bond amount set by the court.

When you use a surety bondsman, you’re paying a premium for the bonding service rather than simply “paying the bond” to the bonding company.

And before you hand anyone money, you should understand:

✔️ What you’re paying
✔️ What you’re signing
✔️ Whether collateral is involved
✔️ What responsibilities come with the agreement
✔️ What happens after the defendant is released

Don’t be embarrassed to ask questions.
