Reason 1 Why life insurance is relevant to business owners.

Because if the whole business relies on the operation of one person, yalls business won’t last off savings and sold assets for long if that person is out of the picture. Protect your talent, protect your business.

When business slows down, your mortgage doesn't. The car payment, the tuition, and the household expenses all run on a schedule that has nothing to do with how last month went.
Many business owners have thought through their business risks. The personal financial exposure that comes with a bad stretch due to an owner’s qualifying sickness or injury preventing them from working and earning an income.? That's the gap people forget to plan for.

Do you know Liam?

If not, you will by the end of September.

LIAM is Life Insurance Awareness Month.

I'd like to get the facts straight. So, for the next five Tuesdays, is taking on life insurance. A few myths. A few truths. And hopefully, a few questions you've never thought to ask about your own protection.

Let's stir up better conversations about something that's pretty easy to put on the “I'll deal with that later” list.

Welcome to LIAM. See you next Tuesday.

I thought starting a new career meant starting over.

For the first few months, almost every day came with some version of, “I am SO new at this. Am I even doing what I’m supposed to be doing?”

Now there are people in my office who are newer than me.

Getting to help them through some of the same questions and emotions I had when I started has made me realize just how much I’ve learned. But it’s also made me realize that I didn’t come into this career empty-handed.

Before this, I worked in pet retail, powersports, and automotive sales before helping build an automotive business of our own.

On paper, those experiences don't necessarily scream “financial services.”

But I use what they taught me every single day.

Each role taught me how to wear a lot of hats, juggle responsibilities, work with different personalities, and most importantly, help people find the solution that made the most sense for what they were trying to accomplish.

Whether I was helping someone figure out the right setup for a new pet, choosing the parts that made sense for their car build, or now helping someone think through the plans to put in place for their family and future, the process really isn't that different.

Ask thoughtful questions.

Understand the person and what they're trying to accomplish.

Know what you know, and know when to bring in someone who knows more.

Then make the solution as simple to understand as possible.

I'm still new. There is an incredible amount I have left to learn, and I'm surrounded by people with decades more experience than I have. I'm starting to appreciate that being new doesn't mean starting from scratch. When you find where you're meant to be, sometimes a new career is where all those seemingly unrelated experiences finally start coming together.

Your mortgage, your car, your kids' school—these obligations continue to exist whether you continue to work on your business or become disabled.
And when your income as an owner is interrupted, your household feels it first.
Many business owners have a plan for the business. Fewer have thought through what happens at home if a qualifying sickness or injury prevents them from working and earning an income.
I help business owners protect what matters most with the right disability coverage. Let's connect.

All it takes is a goal.

Recently, I noticed Jon Acuff’s newest book sitting on an associate’s desk. I hadn’t heard of him before, but our convo led me to his podcast, All It Takes Is a Goal.

I’m hooked.

Most episodes are only around 15 minutes, which makes them perfect for a drive. They're short episodes, easily digestible, but incredibly impactful.

I’ve always seen the importance of setting goals for yourself. I have goals for what I need to accomplish today, and others I'm working towards for 5+ years in the future.

But I’ve noticed I tend to fall into one of two traps ↓↓

Sometimes I get so caught up planning for the goal that I don’t spend enough time actually doing.

Other times, I get so caught up in the day-to-day doing that I lose sight of what all that work is supposed to be building toward.

A few of the episodes I’ve listened to have put words to that tension better than I ever have, and given me some practical ways to think about it differently.

So, if you have a 15-minute drive this week and you're working toward something, give All It Takes Is a Goal a listen.

And if you already listen, send me your favorite episode. I’m still making my way through them.
