📊 Braeburn Market Weekly Observation | October 2026

The market’s choppiness continued this past week, but we’re beginning to see some interesting shifts in market strength.

Several well-established companies that had previously struggled rallied strongly, including Berkshire Hathaway, Procter & Gamble, Altria, Philip Morris, Walmart, Mastercard, and Visa. This may suggest that investors are seeking the stability of familiar, established companies rather than signaling a broader shift in market direction.

🔎 What We’re Watching

Our monitored ETF universe continues to show pockets of strength across several areas, including:

• Broad Market: Large-cap cash cows, Nasdaq 100, and U.S. quality stocks
• Sectors: Energy, technology, and emerging markets
• Fixed Income: Short-term Treasuries

These trends are part of our ongoing market-monitoring process. While areas of strength are worth watching, they do not automatically signal a reason to buy. We continue to evaluate market conditions carefully.

📈 Braeburn Portfolio Performance | YTD 2026

Our year-to-date performance figures and equity index comparisons are included below. Results reflect specific portfolios and monitored models. Where client portfolios are shown, returns are net of fees. Individual client results may vary based on timing, portfolio size, and other factors.

🌎 Looking Ahead

We’re keeping a close eye on crude oil prices, interest rates, and developments in the Middle East. Crude oil has remained in the low-$90-per-barrel range, while interest rates held steady over the past week. Improvements in these areas could be welcomed by the markets.

Meanwhile, political rhetoric is heating up as election season approaches. Regardless of the outcome, we look forward to seeing the political noise settle down so investors can focus on the fundamentals.

At Braeburn Wealth Management, we continue to monitor changing market conditions and the opportunities and risks they may present.

We’re proud to see one of our own out in the community giving back! 💙

One of our Braeburn Wealth Management team members, Amanda, recently participated in the Grand Haven Rotary road cleanup service project. We’re grateful for organizations like Rotary that bring people together to make a positive impact in our community.

Giving back and being involved in the communities we serve is something we truly value at Braeburn. Thank you to the Grand Haven Rotary for organizing this great service project! 🌎💙

🚮 Service Above Self in Action! 💙💛 ~ A big thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us for our recent highway cleanup effort! Our Rotary club members were out making a difference, and we were thrilled to be joined by several students from Grand Haven High School’s Interact Club and Green Club. Together, we helped keep our community clean and beautiful.

🙏We're grateful for your time, energy, and enthusiasm to this project. Your commitment to community service makes a real difference! 🌎♻️

Highlights From Lowry's Weekly Commentary
• While the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite are holding near all-time high territory, thanks to large-cap Technology, conditions underneath the surface remain fragile.
• As we have recently discussed, higher yields and inflationary pressures continue to strain the smaller-cap segments, leading to further weakness in the balance of Demand and Supply.

Highlights from Braeburn Monitor
• Except for the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 (market cap weighted) our other monitored indexes looked increasingly weak this week. 😊
• 10-year treasury yields climbed again and stand at 5.28%.
• Crude oil, at $91.11 is 10% lower than 3 weeks prior.

Economic Highlight of the Week
House Price Index YoY in the United States increased to 2.60 percent in July from 2.30 percent in June of 2026. House Price Index YoY in the United States averaged 4.48 percent from 1992 until 2026, reaching an all time high of 18.90 percent in July of 2021 and a record low of -10.70 percent in November of 2008. source: Federal Housing Finance Agency

Highlights From Lowry's Weekly Commentary
• While the law of Demand and Supply remains at the heart of market movement, multiple themes within the stock market have created strong crosscurrents. Indeed, they have also made the approach to our indicators a bit more complicated.
• However, despite pullbacks and what may have become a bifurcated market, we believe that the primary trend remains to the upside

Highlights from Braeburn Monitor
• Small Caps, Value Stocks and International stocks have fallen below their 50-day moving averages. Why you might ask? My answer is that AI is not a large component of any of these universes.
• Crude prices have dipped back below $100 per barrel.
• Mortgage rates have moved above the psychological 7% level.

Economic Highlight of the Week
The average contract rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage in the US rose by 15 basis points to 7.12% in the week ended September 18, reaching its highest level since early May 2024, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The increase followed a rise in Treasury yields, with the 10-year note remaining close to its highest level since 2007, after the Federal Reserve raised its policy rate by 25 basis points, marking its first rate increase in three years. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh also signaled that further rate increases could follow in the coming months, while other policymakers have since delivered hawkish remarks, reinforcing expectations that additional tightening remains possible. Mortgage rates have risen by more than 100 basis points since the US and Israel began strikes against Iran in late February. Meanwhile, total mortgage applications fell 1.5%, marking a third consecutive weekly decline. Refinancing applications dropped 2.6%, while purchase applications decreased 0.8%. source: Mortgage Bankers Association of America

The battle raging in the market is the triangle of higher energy prices, higher interest rates and massive stimulus from the AI build out. The later dwarfs what was spent on prior capex epics such as the Interstate buildout (1966), Electricity build out (1949) and the Broadband buildout (2000). Our economy, and lives, are still benefiting from these projects even though some occurred over 75 years ago.

What I find fascinating is that the markets has held up so well while interest rates have risen. The 10-year treasury now stands over 5% for the first time since mid-2007, over 19 years ago. I’ve always said the market can handle higher rates it just doesn’t like the process of getting there. Since late February 10-year treasury yields have risen 30%! Yet during that same time the S&P 500 has risen 12.5%. Oh, and did I mention that we entered a War during this time?

The logical reason for this unusual activity is that the strength of our economy is currently greatly overshadowing concern about the war, higher interest rates, or higher fuel prices.

Highlights From Lowry's Weekly Commentary
• The slow but steady decline in the body of evidence over the past four weeks has not sounded major alarms, but it has made us pay attention. Unlike the proverbial frog in slowly boiling water, we have been noticing conditions changing, and the tone of our commentary shifted beginning in late August.
• Although we still believe the bull market is intact, the new intermediate trend Selling Control No. 2B registered on September 9 demands some adjustments. September may once again follow its historically rocky path.

Highlights from Braeburn Monitor
• Key moving averages have managed to stay above their 50 day MA’s but the slow tick of rates and oil to the upside are starting to cause worry.
• The 10 Yr. Treasury stands at 4.97%, poisonously close to the psychological 5% level. It last touched 5% in the summer of 2007.

Economic Highlight of the Week
Producer Prices in the United States increased to 157.41 points in August from 156.78 points in July of 2026. Producer Prices in the United States averaged 121.36 points from 2009 until 2026, reaching an all time high of 157.41 points in August of 2026 and a record low of 100.20 points in November of 2009. source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
