The survey showed that homeowners in the South and West were more likely to have a home inventory (48 percent and 41 percent), followed by homeowners in the Northeast and Midwest (both regions at 39 percent). Having a home inventory is very important if you ever need to file a claim, so if you’re part of the 57% who haven’t prepared their inventory yet, we highly recommend you do so! We know it can be a daunting task, so start by taking it one room at a time. We recommend including the following information for all of your belongings:

- A few photographs and videos.
- A description.
- The make, model and serial number.
- Receipt (or approximate purchase date and location).

To avoid surprises when it comes to your insurance premium, check with your insurance agent before buying a car!

It’s January and winter is in full swing here in Wisconsin. The winter elements such as snow, ice, and wind can pose a risk for homeowners. Here are 3 things you can do to reduce your risk of home damage during the winter and ensure your home insurance policy covers any that does occur:

1. Be Ready for Snow Damage: The heavy weight of the snow covering your roof can be a concern. Check your home insurance policy and make sure it provides coverage for weight of ice, snow, and sleet. Otherwise, your insurer might not pay up when you submit your claim for a damaged roof.

2. Protect Your Pipes: To avoid your pipes freezing, keep your thermostat set no lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit and allow warm water to trickle from faucets overnight.

3. Protect Interior Walls: Make sure that your attic is ventilated, insulate your attic floor to prevent heat from rising too much, and consider installing a water-repellent membrane underneath your roof covering
