TVA Community Credit Union History
Our Credit Union was established on June 24, 1936, and we were the oldest Federally chartered credit union in Alabama.

We started as a credit union for TVA employees and their families, and in 1989, when we merged with Sheffield Federal Credit Union, we brought employees of the City of Sheffield into the family. Other mergers happened through the years; in 2006, we changed our charter so that we are able to provide our services to every resident of seven counties in North Alabama. Today, we can proudly say that we

are "Everybody's Credit Union," but that the principles we were founded on remain the same: people helping people. The Credit Union Difference
There are many ways in which a credit union is different from a bank. First, credit unions are not-for-profit, and we exist to serve our members. We don't issue stock or pay dividends to outside stockholders; instead, we return earnings to our members through lower loan rates, higher interest on deposits, and lower fees. Our credit union is owned by its members, and each member gets a vote, regardless of how much money you have on deposit; we are governed by a volunteer board. Most of all, we are in business to help our members, not to make a profit. Every member counts at TVACU - that's another reason we are Everybody's Credit Union!
