Open Enrollment season STARTS THURSDAY!

One Medicare envelope that's worth opening is your Annual Notice of Changes (ANOC).

If you haven’t received it yet, make sure to check your plan portal (you may be getting digital only). Many plans are being terminated (Canceled) If that is the case you will get just a letter indicating that your coverage will stop December 31st. You will have to pick a new plan.

Check these four things first.

Monthly premium - Is it staying the same or changing next year? (for Advantage or your separate Drug plans PDP)

Prescription drug coverage - what’s the deductible, and if a stand-alone Part D, is the premium going up?

Confirm your Doctors and pharmacies - Is your network still the same?

Copays and other costs - Have any of your out-of-pocket costs changed? (Advantage Plans)

MEDIGAP PLANS DON’T CHANGE BENEFITS ANNUALLY. The premium changes yearly. Medigap is a Medicare Supplement. AKA Plan G

Here’s what the ANOC document WON’T tell you: Whether there will be changes in coverage for the drugs you are currently taking, come 2027. Some drugs will change tiers and that needs to be approved by CMS.

Deciding to keep the same plan for next year based on the fact that it worked for 2026 isn’t enough. You dont want to be surprised come January. Plans can make changes from one year to the next, and that's exactly why Medicare requires that the plans send the ANOC before Open Enrollment. Your cost sharing will likely increase this year, and some benefits have been cut.

If you receive a Termination Letter you have a Guaranteed Issue option to return to Original Medicare and buy a Part D Drug plan. Should you want to consider that.

You don't have to make a change just because you received the letter. The focus for 2027 is on HMO's rather than PPO's Find a plan that best fits your needs and budget. The Part B (Premium and Deductible) have yet to be released by CMS. It is projected that Premium will go to $ 209 (deducted from SS) and the deductible will move to $ 292 ( 2026 283) and will be released mid November.

I have been telling clients to READ your Medicare Plan Annual Notice of Change when it arrives. I can appreciate that the booklet is some 29 pages, but that plan may not be the right plan for you this year. The ANOC is at best a Summary of Changes, the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) provides more details on what the plan will cover going forward. It will be available digitally in October.

However, The Medicare marketplace is going through an adjustment. With Service Area Reductions (SARS) and Segmentation. Several plans will not be offered in 2027. In these cases, you will receive a Termination Letter. The letter will notify you that your coverage under the plan will end on 12/31/26. Last year, many were crosswalked (moved) to a new plan. This year that option is rare. The member will actually have to enroll in a new plan. These letters are to be mailed the first week of October, pending CMS approval. It is important to read that letter and act quickly to replace your coverage. There are a significant number of plans being terminated. Some counties (rural) will lose a dozen or more plans. The reasons for the dropped plan are many. Basically, the plans were not sustainable in the current form. DONT PANIC. I can help you find another plan. Another option is to return to Original Medicare with a Medigap and PART D Rx plan. National and Regional plans are still available. So ACT NOW call me to go over your doctors and prescriptions.

This year the Medicare cuts will be deeper. Companies are about to announce Service Area Reductions (SAR's). To you plan terminations. They are waiting for CMS approval. Read your mail for important information on your options.
