Friends! I have been an independent Medicare broker since 2011. I respectfully want to comment on this shared post. ( see photos) This post and photo convey false information that is aimed at causing needless fear. Additionally, the post written by this lady is obviously an experience with patients who possibly had the wrong advantage plan. If someone is placed in an advantage plan without research being done as to provider networks, etc. – then certainly problems can arise. But, all advantage plans are not the same. There are advantage plans that have national networks and allow beneficiaries to go out of network to receive care . There are advantage plans that have very strict networks as well. The key is choosing the correct one. Advantage plans are Part C of Medicare, they came about as a result of the Medicare Modernization Act under the Bush administration. One of the rules for PART C is that advantage plans have to be as good or better than Original Medicare. Advantage plans are required by CMS to cover everything that Medicare covers. I write Medicare Supplements AND Advantage plans. Both are great coverage. Many PPO Advantage plans require no referrals. Original Medicare has a 20% coinsurance for all Part B medical services including MRIs. A beneficiary and their doctor does NOT lose control of their healthcare. Most of the advantage plans I write have NO deductible. Currently part B standard premiums are $174.70- if a person can afford a supplement, it has an additional premium usually based on their age. Many people have chosen advantage plans over the years because many of them have a zero premium, and are much more affordable. Advantage plans do have networks and a beneficiary needs to work with a knowledgeable broker to get in the right plan in order to manage drug cost and ensure their doctors are in network. But, hear me, I have hundreds of very satisfied advantage customers who are placed in a much better situation financially than just having original Medicare. Of course, I also have many very satisfied supplement clients who have original Medicare plus a supplement. It is wrong for anyone to claim that one kind of plan is better than the other. It depends on many factors, including the clients financial needs and possible limitations. I have a strong heart of advocacy for Medicare beneficiary population. It pains me to see such misinformation being heralded as truth. Be careful who you trust. Warm regards!
