Be Ready!!! Tips for winter and your home!

🧊 Exterior & Structural Prep
• Disconnect Garden Hoses: Drain them and store them away. Leaving them attached can cause water to back up into the pipes and freeze inside your walls.
• Insulate Exposed Pipes: Use foam sleeves or "pipe tape" on any plumbing in unheated areas like crawl spaces, attics, or garages.
• Seal the Gaps: Check for drafts around windows and doors. Use weatherstripping or even a rolled-up towel at the base of doors to keep the heat in.
🔥 Heating & Safety
• Service Your Heater: Ensure your furnace filters are clean. If you use a wood-burning stove or fireplace, make sure the chimney has been inspected/cleaned recently.
• Test Alarms: Since you’ll likely be running the heat more often, ensure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries.
• Know Your Main Water Shut-off: If a pipe does burst, you need to know exactly where the main valve is to stop the flooding immediately.
📦 Supplies & Utilities
• Prevent Frozen Pipes: If the temperature drops below freezing, open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air reach the pipes and keep a very slow trickle of water running from faucets.
• Stock the Pantry: Have at least 3 days of non-perishable food and 1 gallon of water per person per day in case of a power outage.
• Prep the Shovel: Make sure your snow shovel is accessible and you have a bag of ice melt or sand ready for your walkways.
• Charge Everything: Power up your phones, tablets, and portable battery packs before the storm starts.

We fully intend to remain open next week; however, for your safety, we urge you to stay off the roads. If you have a payment due, please do not rely on the mail, as delays are likely.

Instead, please call us to pay over the phone using your bank account or debit card. We can post your payment immediately to ensure your coverage does not lapse and to avoid any late fees. We can also provide any necessary documents via email or text.
