Your open enrollment materials may contain everything employees need to know, but that doesn't necessarily mean they know where to start.

Instead of asking employees to digest an entire benefits guide at once, help them prioritize the information that requires their attention.

Start with:
• What's changing?
• What decisions do I need to make?
• When do I need to act?

Take a look at your first OE communication from an employee's perspective: Is the next step immediately clear? If not, give employees a clear path to the additional information and support they need.

What does an equitable benefits strategy look like across a global workforce?

Offering the same benefits everywhere doesn’t always create the same value for employees. Local regulations, healthcare systems, costs, and workforce expectations can vary significantly from one market to another.

Join Eddie Gow and Stephen Wares on September 23 for The Global Benefits Equation: Balancing Equity, Cost & Local Needs to explore how employers can build greater consistency across regions, without sacrificing local relevance.

Good news for employers offering Dependent Care FSAs: new proposed IRS regulations provide long-awaited clarity around nondiscrimination testing.

The guidance addresses a decades-old ambiguity in the 55% average benefits test, and could make it easier for employers to pass testing and avoid benefit cutbacks for highly compensated employees.

Already completed preliminary testing for 2026? The new guidance may be worth another look.

Consistency is important when building a global benefits strategy, but it doesn't mean offering the exact same benefits in every country.

Since local regulations, healthcare systems, market expectations, and employee needs can vary, the goal is to determine where your benefits philosophy should remain consistent, and where your approach needs to adapt to the local market.

For global HR teams, a useful place to start is asking:
• What experience do we want employees to have everywhere?
• Which benefits should reflect our company-wide philosophy?
• Where do local market practices require a different approach?
• Are we evaluating benefits based on local employee expectations, not just U.S. standards?

A strong global strategy creates consistency in philosophy while allowing flexibility in ex*****on.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve explored 530A (Trump) Accounts from multiple angles. As our six-part series comes to a close, we’re looking ahead.

Recent proposed regulations have provided more clarity around employer contributions and investment options, but important questions remain.

Our final article brings together what we’ve learned, what’s changed, and the questions worth considering as guidance continues to evolve.

Benefits don't have to be complicated. In our new Benefits, Translated series, we're breaking down common benefits terms to make them easier for employees to understand.

First up: Out-of-Pocket Maximum.

While “out-of-pocket maximum” sounds like the most you’ll have to spend on healthcare during the year, there’s an important distinction.

Your out-of-pocket maximum generally limits what you pay for covered, in-network services that count toward your plan's limit. Premiums, non-covered services, and certain out-of-network costs may not count.

It's a small distinction that can make a big difference when employees are estimating their potential healthcare costs.

We'll continue breaking down the benefits terms employees encounter every day. What benefits term should we translate next?

18 minutes.

That's how long the average employee spends choosing their benefits during open enrollment. And nearly three-quarters say choosing a health plan is confusing.

That's a lot riding on a relatively short decision-making window.

As open enrollment approaches, look for ways to simplify benefits information so employees can more easily understand their options, compare plans, and make informed decisions.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored what 530A (Trump) Accounts are, what they mean for employers and families, and how they compare to other savings options.

Now we’re tackling a practical question: What can the money actually be used for?

At age 18, the account transitions into a traditional IRA, bringing traditional IRA tax and withdrawal rules into play. Important questions also remain, including FAFSA treatment and evolving employer guidance.

Our latest article in the series takes a closer look at what these rules mean in practice, along with the important questions that remain unresolved.

Even a strong benefits program can be difficult to use if employees aren’t sure where to find answers.

As open enrollment approaches, take a few minutes to look at your benefits resources from an employee’s perspective:

• Is there a clear place to start when someone has a question?
• Can employees easily find information about coverage and costs?
• Do they know who to contact when they need additional help?
• Are those resources communicated throughout the year?

For a simple test, pick a common benefits question and see how many steps it takes an employee to find the answer. If the path isn't clear or intuitive, that's a good place to start improving the employee experience.
