Baxter County Cooperative Extension - Agriculture Paige Barrett, Baxter County Extension Agent. Agriculture news, announcements, recommendations. Posts Since 1905, when J. A. That is why "Arkansas is Our Campus."

Evans was appointed state agent for Arkansas and Louisiana, some form of Extension educational work has occurred in Arkansas. The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the University of Arkansas' Division of Agriculture. With offices in all 75 counties, our faculty and staff provide educational programs and research-based information to the people of Arkansas. From agricultural programs to fami

ly financial management to youth education, we offer educational programs that have immediate and practical applications. The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is very proud to have faculty in every county of the state who live and work with the citizens they serve. Extension educational programs touch all segments of our society: youth, families, community and, yes, farmers. The Extension faculty work hard to meet the needs of the people they serve, leaving nothing undone that might contribute toward success. Our classrooms are found in open fields or on the tailgate of a pickup. You will find us among Arkansas' 33 million acres of crops, livestock and natural resources. You will find us in conference centers and public schools, community centers and courthouses, in the classroom and in the lab. I trust you will visit the University of Arkansas Extension website often, perhaps even bookmarking it for future visits. You will find something useful each time. If you have a need to stop by your county office, please do so. Our goal is to provide non-formal education to all Arkansans. Arkansas is truly our campus.

🌾 WEEKLY DROUGHT TIP 🌾

Avoid continued overgrazing before pastures become grazed short.

Overgrazing can weaken forage plants, slow pasture response to rain and fertilizer, and increase soil temperatures. Leaving adequate stubble behind helps maintain healthier stands and improves pasture recovery.

🌱 Leave the stubble, keep the stand.

The City of Mountain Home - Mayor's Office is hosting a public meeting on June 25th at the new Mountain Home Community Center to share more information with residents about Issue 3. For more information about the meeting, contact the mayor's office.

✅As of today, we know there are three constitutional amendments on the ballot this November along with a $500 million bond issue. You can read the full text of the proposals on our website at https://uaex.uada.edu/.../voter.../state-ballot-issues.aspx

⬇️Below is the Arkansas Ballot Issue flyer from the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture (UADA) Public Policy Center showing the names of the statewide ballot issues. The Center publishes the Arkansas Ballot Issue Voter Guide so be on the look out for it this fall.

‼️Heads up: As you see, the handout lists SJR15 instead of Issue 3. The Secretary of State numbers the proposals in late August so you will see the Center’s materials refer to proposals by their legislative bill number until the ballot is official.

🤝Our colleagues at the Center say SJR15 asks voters to give legislators the authority to create programs where loans and grants of public money are available for economic development, and for local government to create economic development districts within cities, counties or cooperative areas. Properties in an economic development district would be exempt from property tax. However, SJR15 would allow the district to levy taxes and fees on properties within its boundaries.

⚠️State legislators would be responsible for proposing and passing laws with the details of how the programs would work in future legislative sessions.

Headed to a fair or livestock show this season? Make sure your animals meet Arkansas’ exhibition health requirements before you go!

Many species need current CVIs, some require negative tests within 30–90 days, and animals showing signs of contagious disease won’t be allowed to exhibit. Requirements also vary by species, including horses, cattle, poultry, sheep and goats, swine, and more. Plan ahead, check the rules early, and help keep Arkansas agriculture healthy.

Full details and permit links are available here: https://agriculture.arkansas.gov/animals/disease-traceability/animal-entry-requirements/
