🎣 Farmer Fred & Fran Go Fishing! 🐟
Farmer Fred and Fran recently met a fisherman on the Norfork River who had traveled all the way from Southeast Missouri to fish for trout in Arkansas!
Arkansas is known for its excellent trout fishing, and the Norfork and White Rivers attract anglers from near and far. This brings visitors to our communities and supports local businesses.
A Little Arkansas Trout History
The trout story on the Norfork River goes back more than 75 years.
In 1948: 600 rainbow trout fingerlings were experimentally stocked below Norfork Dam.
In 1949: Brown trout were introduced.
By the early 1950s, the Norfork River was becoming known for its trout fishing.
The Norfork National Fish Hatchery opened in 1957 and was created primarily to produce trout for stocking the cold-water rivers below Norfork and Bull Shoals dams. Arkansas Game & Fish Commission
Today, the hatchery raises rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout and stocks trout into the White and North Fork rivers.
